The paint on my soffit boards is flaky and I'm looking to get them replaced or repainted.

I'm conscious they could be asbestos containing AIB.

Has anyone had similar work done? Did you get a separate asbestos survey done or just pay someone to crack on with it?

Thanks

Get it sampled first, it's not expensive and a damn sight cheaper than just telling someone it is asbestos and getting them to treat it as such when it might not be.

Will you be painting them yourself or getting someone in to do it? Will it require removal of flaky paint before the repainting? As a homeowner your can do what ever you like with asbestos in your own property as long as you take the right precautions and dispose of waste correctly. If you get someone in to do it then it's different.

I would get a sample taken for analysis to determine firstly if it is asbestos then secondly if it is AIB or asbestos cement as this will determine who can potentially repaint them (unless you do it yourself in which case it's up to you). AIB is a licensed material and only licensed asbestos companies can carry out work on it where as asbestos cement is non licensed and so anyone with competence can work on it.
Sampling is cheap, you can do it yourself with a wetwipe and mask and sent it to a lab for analysis. Or get someone qaulified out to take a sample for around 150 quid ish

Just to add, if you want them replaced then defo get a surveyor to come and get a couple of samples and that way they can tell if it's AIB or AC. Big difference in removal costs.
