Rental car insurance?

Hi everyone,

A couple of years ago, I was hit with a charge of £400 for damage to a rental car while on holiday. Before that, I always declined the extra insurance, but now I normally pay the extra. But that adds a lot to each rental.

so does anyone know - can you buy an annual ‘excess cover’ type of thing, to cover for each holiday car rental through the year?

I have it as an extra for my car insurance, I think it costs me an extra 20 a year, it is quite common here in Germany, not sure if UK insurance companies offer the same.

Yes, Moneysavingexpert is a good place to start.

We had an annual policy with Questor last year but it wasn’t the cheapest option this year. Should be about £50 for the year. Considering that’s about the same as Enterprise charged me for the waiver on a courtesy car…
