I could do with renting a car for a month or so. I have to give an old lease car back, no option to extend. Replacement car can’t come until a month or so later because <boring reasons>.
If it was for a week, I’d just hire. But that’s expensive for a month or two. I’m currently erring towards spending £2k on a battle Corsa or the like, in the hope that I’ll get 80-90% back when I sell (assuming no catastrophes).
Any other suggestions?
Phone a local car rental place they might give you a good deal for a mobth
Where are you based? I have a spare one you could possibly borrow for a small fee for a month

Bangernomics!
Buy for, say, £500; keep fingers crossed that it doesn't blow up/disintegrate; sell for £500.
It might work out...
Last year we bought a 2010 Fieata for my partner for £1350. Its
just passed its mot with no advisories and is probably still worth what we paid for it.
Small cars are always easy to sell on.
Something similar could be an option?
My wife's lease car through a work scheme was delayed a couple of months, but she could hire a 'stop gap' car through them. I think it was around £300 a month.
Maybe worth asking if there something similar, particularly if the gap is due to them being late in provision of the new lease car?
Small vans are often cheaper to rent than a car..............
Another vote for buy a banger/shed... but maybe something more interesting than a Corsa. Or, in fact, pretty much anyhting but a Corsa!
Daughter's '06 Corolla was about £1400 2 or 3 years ago and is really quite nice to drive.
My last stop-gap car was a BMW E39 530, again £1350 - bought for 3 months, ended up keeping for 18 months as it was very nice for the money.
And 3 years ago for my 50th, in covid so my original holiday + Spa trackday plans were wrecked, I looked at hiring something interesting for a week and decided it was so expensive, I bought a 320 'vert for £2200 instead. Had a long summer of topless motoring and sold it on for £1800 in the autumn. If I'd have given it away it still would have been about the same as a week's sports car hire.
So, buy something, but push the boat out a little, be silly - maybe something topless, maybe sportier than your usual, maybe a big old barge of quiet, power, leather and appalling mpg... have a bit of fun 🙂
