Hi all, living in Renfrewshire, relatively new to the area having spent most of my time in the UK, up the north east of Scotland. Been looking about a bit on the interweb and am finding it hard to find any trails or tracks to suit downhill or freeride type cycling. Had heard possibly some stuff up the glenifer braes.... Not too bothered if have to travel outside of Renfrewshire, anywhere in or around surroundings of Glasgow.. (cant travel to fort william just now) but just simply cant find any tracks at all, dont really know anyone into cycling in the area so perhaps am out of the loop.... any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi Type, try the Mountain Bike Meet Up Group, link above, also the GMBC. Both do rides round Glasgow area.
Cathkin Brae's aint to far away (I have not bwen there) Also good natural riding in the Kilpatricks, some good stuff at Mugdock/Carbeth along and off the West Highland Way. Also Carron Valley is not to far away. Then there is Arrochar/Ardgarten, Aberfoyle, Loch Ard Forest, and Lennox Forest.
Plenty more will be along soon with other recomendations.
Its a bit of a zany site to navigate butthis site for route is south west scotland has some that reach up into North and East Ayrshire so will be closer to you. If you headed in a ayrshire direction the Craufurdland is worth looking up, theres also a downhill track at newmilns dry ski slope.
Thanks guys, dont have a clue where any of those places are bar Aberfoyle so I shall get on the case. Thanks for the help and links 🙂
DH type stuff is a bit thin on the ground around Glasgow. Mugdock and Cathkin are pretty much all XC and Carron Valley is pretty tame. There used to be some shore in Lennox forest, but I don't know if it's still there. Cambusbarron out near Stirling might be a good bet and the guys on the Freeflow bikes forum would probably be able to point you in the right direction for more local stuff.
Yes, most of what I referred to is for XC though a few decent descents among them. For real downhill you could try doing Ben Lomond, The Cobbler though one hell of a lot of push up! And maybe best waiting till slighly better weather.
Some of our guys go to Innerleithen which is more Downhill orientated, you would probably also like Glentress. Regular outings to there and car sharing is encouraged.
Try Lennox Forest Outdoor Centre on Facebook, Scott that is involved is a DH fan and could point you in direction of some good stuff.
Try also posting on the Mountain Bike Glasgow Meet up Facebook page, a good few of the guys do DH and are always happy for new faces.
