Daughters car is dead, I'm thinking she could have our Leon and I'll pick up a Zoe from the likes of Cinch, they're about 10 to 11k for a 2020 model. Anything to be wary of? Do Renault still do that battery rental thing? Leaf is a bit big but similar prices. The electric thing appeals as this car won't do big milage, although the Zoe actually had decent range and fast charging, which I note many of the Peugeot e208's don't.
Think the battery rental has stopped now other than for those who were already renting. Iirc when a battery lease car goes through a dealer the battery is 'purchased' so it becomes a non lease car.
Get the more powerful motor. The basic motor is S L O W. We have the ZE40 which is 109BHP equivalent. That is enough that motorway is not scary and the car is pretty nippy (for a heavy vehicle). Downside with the one we have is no fast charging but we don't need that for our usage.

Worth looking at corsas. They're similar price for a newer car with more space and (I think) more range.

Zoes do not have a good rep for reliability, Leafs fare much better.
We have a 2017 (old model) Leaf and my mum had a 2016 Zoe. Leaf has been great, cheap to run and maintain, nicer drive. Zoe has been very expensive to service and maintain (multiple electrical issues and expensive servicing vs Leaf), battery lease a real hassle, and when I've needed the dealership for work it has been expensive and a poor experience from them and Renault UK. Ended with an aircon pump failure and 3k repair needed.
Look for newer, supported tech. Older Nissan models with 2G are losing the app.

The 2020s (ZE 50 with 52kW battery) have a more than adequate motor in the base model, I've got one and leave it in eco mode which is plenty fast enough in traffic - if you want more go floor the throttle and it cancels eco mode temporarily. It's an EV, whilst the neighbouring car is slipping the clutch or waiting for the ICE revs to pick up you're already gone.
As for motorway, it's quite happy at 130kmh but not for long, so I don't if I've I've got more than 120km to do.
My first Zoé was fault free, this one gave me warning messages (but kept going) that resulted in a processor remplacement. They're reckoned to be less glitchy that the 208 and have a geuine 52kWh useable battery. The Corsa is the same as the 208 with possibly fewer glitches. The orignal Zoe tyres were known to wear unevenly, inside and and outside edges, and some were replaced under warranty, I put Cross Climates on which have worn evenly and feel better.
I prefered the ergonomics of the orignal Zoe, the mechanical handbrake, being able to select forwards whilst still going backwards, the light colured trim, the big speed display... but the new one is more normal.
On average it fast charges around 35kW on hot days and maintains that up to the the last 10% so breaks are about 50 minutes. I cold days I charge it in the garage just before using it so it starts warm and gives Summer range minus heater use.
Sevicing has been cheap, the emost expensive item so far the brake fluid change at four years, insurance is cheap, they are not popular with thieves.
The main two things when looking at used Zoes for me is has it got the CCS charging option fitted and what's the warranty like because repairs are expensive, we've a guy at work running a really early one from 2015 and the warranty and then extended warranty have been very useful.
Zoe is possibly the sensible choice, but the e208 is a great little car, I love mine as it has a bit of style/personality IMHO compared the Zoe (and eCorsa).
I honestly can't remember the specifics but I thought there was something that seemed pretty fundamental that was either optional or absent on the Zoe (battery cooling? heat pump?) compared the e208. I think you're wrong that not all e208's can fast charge - think it's the other way round and not all Zoe's can.
EDIT; as above maybe it's the CCS charging I was thinking of. There was certainly something that seemed totally fundamental that was optional on them.
Much appreciated everyone. I like the 208, it's more stylish than the Corsa but they are both a bit more expensive than the Zoe, maybe not prohibitively so though.
Don't think my missis is overly keen on just banging £££k on a car, particularly an electric one which we've not had before, without a little more consideration though. And I thought she was impulsive!
I think the ZE50 has the same power in the base model as our (2019) ZE40. It was the earlier ones that running would have been faster. Our original plan was to get an earlier model but they were so nasty to drive we nearly gave up on the idea. The ZE40 was so much nicer, if the ZE50 improves on that then great (I for one hate the manual handbrake as our other car has an automatic one so would consider that a well needed upgrade). The onboard computer is a bit slow but I can live with that. I think ours has a heat pump, remote warming is a really nice feature (especially for wife so she can preheat when leaving early/returning late on the train).

Yep Nissan are lying - they just want to shut down support. 2G will be around for another 5 years at least. I have a 2014 Leaf since almost new and to be honest the app has been pretty rubbish from the start. I gave up on it in the end and just used the menu on the car to schedule defrost etc as it tends to get used for the same thing most days.
I wouldn't buy a secondhand Zoe without a cast iron warranty, though to be honest I wouldn't buy any second hand EV without one.
I use the MyLeaf app on Android which works well for preheat.
What sort of warranty do you really have on a 10 year old Leaf?

Well obviously i don't have a warranty on it now but it had the balance of a 5 year warranty on parts and 8 years on battery when I bought it at 18 months old.

That's not correct, 2G is supported until 2033 (Ofcom), older car nissan customers are being dumped and apparently in less than a months time (I believe it's all pre 2016 Leafs). Not the end of the world tho, still worth having as a cheap local run around.

All the Zoes have a heat pump for battery cooling and always have had.
In terms of A/C charging the the Zoe is faster than the 208 at 22kW, however the 50kW DC is an option on the Zoe and can't rival the Peugeot's 100kW
The Zoe's boot is significantly bigger and you're sat higher which you may or may not like. Two 27.5 enduro mtbs go in the Zoe with the wheels out.
The range of the first 208s was 30km less than the Zoe, the latest ones are 15km more.
Then there's the styling, I dislike the Pug's Audi style front but you might like it.
