I'm painting our front window frames. There's a white silicone bead that I want to replace with black, as the paintwork will be dark grey. What's the best way to remove the white bead?
I've got some Silicone Eater, but just wondering whether that's the best/easiest/quickest/smartest way.
Yes,
Bit of a ballache I'm afraid. Very sharp Stanley blade and patience 🙂
EDIT: as well as the silicone eater.
Cut it out with a stanley blade. silicone eater it's pretty crap though, i've tried loads now, none seem to do what they claim. If it's fairly old, it should come out very easily, you may even be able to start at the end and poul the whole thing out like string
If your lucky it will pull out in one go. Otherwise a stanley swill work but if your worried about damaging the surfaces with the stanley you could use a blunt knife to scrape it out.
Those sharp plastic silicone removers are very good actually without any risk of doing damage.
I also use a sharp stanley knife blade at a shallow angle (45 deg max) and push it along like the bucket on a JCB skimming the silicone off the surface. Make sure you put loads of tape on the back of the blade to stop cutting your hands to shreds.
