Our cottage is starting to get a bit of moss build-up on the slate roof, and am concerned as the slates are pretty old and frail to begin with.
Have attempted to deal with moss previously on tiled roofs, using high pressure sprayer, etc. My concerns this time are around either damaging the slates, or any chemicals potentially damaging the (original, not galvanised) nails.
Is there a particular moss remover chemical I should look for, or avoid? Any other tips?
nothing much to add other than prohibit is a (to me) humorous choice of word. Makes it sound like you're going to put up a sign

don't use a pressure washer.

Slate is about 400 million yrs old, what's concerning you now? What type of slate, nail sicknesses is a thing once you start crawling about and loosen one here one there it's time to reroof.
Copper sulphate was my go to product yrs ago. How are you getting no to and around the roof to apply?
Pan tiles on my roof but the principle is the same. I spray Wet & Forget patio cleaner over the whole roof every couple of years. Kills all the moss, algae, black slime and generally Improves the look of the roof. It does take time for the full effect to be seen but I was genuinely surprised at how simple & effective it was. If there's a lot of moss up there you'll probably have to clean out the gutters once the moss starts to let go. Using a jet wash on roofing tiles or slates I don't think is a great idea for a number of reasons. The patio cleaner works for me.
Ever noticed how the only company that sell moss cleaning services are the only ones to recommend moss cleaning
