[Closed] Removing DRM from my music?

I'm not very techy where computers and software are concerned, so hoping that somebody can point me in the right direction.

On my computer, I have hundreds of albums all downloaded from the Nokia site (I had a free music deal with them).
These appear to be WMA files with protection on them. I can play this music on my pc using the rubbish Nokia player but I'd like a bit more freedom. ie. to use other players, and to put the music on my new phone.

What can I do?
Can I use a program to remove the DRM?
Any recommendations?

Thanks

Windows Media Player should play them, and it's not too bad. What phone is it? If it syncs with Windows Media Player then it might be OK - depending on the DRM they usually let you put it onto MP3 players.

Failing that, you might find some dodgy program on the internet somewhere, or you can try burning them to CD then ripping the CD...

Various methods, and it's perfectly possible to remove the DRM from your WMA's.

I probably have the same Nokia deal. 12 months of downloads for about £50 extra. I bought Aimersoft Music Convertor to remove the DRM. It's a bit slow but works.

Hmmmm,

If I remove the drm and convert to mp3, will I lose quality when compared with just removing the drm and keeping the files as wma?

You're applying compression to something that has already been compressed in a different way, so it does reduce quality.

Whether you'll notice or not is a different thing. You could try converting to a non-DRM'd lossless file format, which shouldn't reduce quality (I think. It's been ages since I looked at all this).

Having said this, if you drag from itunes to your ipod, I guess it converts it to MP3 or something anyway. Most of my music is stored in WMA lossless and I've got an MP3 player that supports WMA lossless, so no conversion needed. Depends on your set up.
