Removing a warped logburner grate

My logburner needs a bit of TLC.

Ordered some new parts at quite significant expense.

The grate and griddle are warped and broken but will not come out.

Is it just a matter of taking an angle grinder to it?

The fire bricks are OK and I would like to avoid damaging them to get the metal parts out.

I rebuilt our Coalbrookdale Severn last year.
I laser cut some grate bars and made a mould for the (knackered) firebricks and cast some new ones.

My bent riddling bar wouldn't come out without taking the side bricks out and as they were broken and cemented in place I chiseled the lot out.

If your sidebricks are okay I'd just chop the bent bits out.

You have just made me feel like the inadequate, handless fool I am, armed only with a Lidl cordless angle grinder!

You might need to remove the firebricks, often the internal roof comes out first

As you found out - stove parts aren't cheap!

The firebricks were no longer available and the grate bars were bloody expensive hence necessity being the mother of invention.

Its really lightweight and very easy to cut.

Worked out pretty reasonable , then used old bits to line the fire box on my pizza oven.

If you're burning only wood, then it's worth considering binning the grate altogether and replacing with a layer or two of firebrick in the base.

Improve performance and save money in one go!

If multifuel required,  then yeah, angle grinder through the grate is sometimes required if it's warped and expanded enough.

Agree with bed maker, my stove has an optional wood burning conversion from multifuel and it transformed it's performance and also enlarged the firebox by deleting the grate and griddle so you can get decent sized logs in there that don't threaten to roll out when you open the door!
