You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm looking a good, regular online photo "assignment" type thing - you know, where someone sets a theme for the week/month and you submit a photo on said theme. Looking for something to get inspired with photography again.
I used to occasionally submit to the Gizmodo one (even had one selected once!) but that seems to have bitten the dust, and the BBC News one, which I think is still there but always seemed a bit "random" in the selection.
The Guardian (/Observer) seems to do one: https://www.theguardian.com/community/series/observer-new-review-photographs
All found this - outdoors slant which is good, but US-centric: https://www.outdoorphotographer.com/assignments/
Any others?
Can we do one on here?
I used to take quite a lot a photos and enjoy it, more for documenting life than art, but more than just snaps, if you get me. But then I started having problems with my DSLR, and it's taken a back seat for the first half of this year. Just bought a new mirrorless camera, so hoping this will inspire me a bit.
I used to do a 'Pic a Day' thing on Flickr, but there wasn't any guidance on what to actually take pics of & some days were a real struggle to find ideas. I did manage a pic/day almost (forgot a couple of days), but never got round to uploading them sometime in mid-Oct I think.
Here's a link to my album, there might be some ideas in there: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjDuPH3S
I just found this, although have not used it: https://52frames.com/

Cannon have been doing one but it might have stopped now
Anyone tried Gurushots? They have daily photo challenges.
Harrison’s Camera shop in Sheffield run a low key monthly one with online submissions.
Current theme is ‘movement’.

To spice it up setup a remote voting page. Weekly winner picks the next week's theme.
4 themed shots a week per entrant?
(Thursday Theme)?
One shot a week is more than enough to have to judge if there is a themed competition.
^true enough in hindsight
Yup, bitter experience.
That 52frames is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for, thanks Stumpy. Website's a bit naff, but it looks like they put a lot of thought into the themes.
Well done with your photo a day - there's some interesting shots in there and I know how hard it is to keep that up. I tried it once, for a month (February. No, not a leap year).
Weekly winner picks the next week’s theme.
Good thinking - coming up with themes every week would put me off, but that spreads it around. I'll see how this goes, and I might try and kick it off, but if someone else beats me to it, I shall not be sorry 😀
dpreview.com have what you are looking for. Standard of the winners is usually very high though

Bet the photos are shit.
Ephotozine still run loads of challenges - there's a Weekly B&W Challenge running right now and doubtless several others. Used to join in the fun until about a decade ago when I started charging for my work and ruined my hobby 🙂

I'm not really fussed about winning, it's unlikely, but I would like to be able to submit stuff without feeling embarrassed about it.
Some of the dpreview ones are quite creative, e.g. Album cover for a heavy metal band, but some are quite (OK very) specialist:
This challenge is for manned, fixed-wing, heavier-than-air craft that are not monoplanes
Er, right then.
Bet the photos are shit.
Hehehe. I wonder how submissions they'll get on that theme. Wouldn't like to be the judge of that.
