Is anyone on here an accountant or a lawyer able to help with an application to become a charity?
Great timing. I came here as I am about to try and set up a charity. I am just reading through this Government link and it seems quite straight forward : https://www.gov.uk/setting-up-charity
The bit I am puzzled by is that you have to register it if "its income is at least £5,000 per year" but to do that you have to prove it has an income of more that £5,000. It is a bit chicken and egg. If I want to apply for a £5,000 grant then I am required to be a registered charity but I cannot be a registered charity until I have received the £5,000.
Any advice on that from anyone would be welcome.
Have is different from can.
You *have* to register if your bringing in £5k+. Therefore a quick whip round/go fund me at Aggies funeral to support her daughter who's left alone doesn't fall foul of charity law.
You can register if the income is less, so that you can access the funding. So just register.
Cheers. Now i just need to think of a good name. WCA.org had been taken
