King Tubby? Eek-A-Mouse? Burning Spear? Sugar Minot?
I don't know really. Pends what you like, innit? Heavy Dub, Roots, Lovers Rock, Ska, Dancehall, etc.
Spend a day on YouTube, check stuff out, one thing will probbly link to other things and so on. You'll be able to find stuff you might not otherwise have thought about.
Let's get the Tubbyfication levels up a bit:
The Congos - Heart of the Congos
Just the best.
Burning spear, Handsworth revolution. Traditional beats . . . . from Birmingham
The Abyssinians: Arise; Satta Massagana
Black Uhuru: Sinsemilla
Burning Spear: Marcus Garvey / Garvey's Ghost
The Congos: Heart of the Congos
The Heptones: Party Time
Ijahman Levi: Haile I Hymn (Chapter One)
Junior Byles: Curly Locks
Junior Murvin: Police and Thieves
Max Romeo: War Ina Babylon
Soul Syndicate: Harvest Uptown, Famine Downtown
Seconding the below recommendation for Trojan box sets. Also, Lee Perry's Arkology.
The site Reggae Reviews is my favorite place to check out artists or albums... v helpful to me.
Dr Alimantado
Black Uhuru
Mad Professor for a bit of dub...
Just off the top of my head
Albums weren't altogether the *thing* by Jamaican artists. A couple of reggae era records which I'd say were essentials are:
-Equal Rights by Peter Tosh
-Heart of the Congos by The Congos
If you then get into the whole compilation thing, then see if you can track down some of the great output from Blood and Fire records, including I Roy (Don't check Me With No Lightweight Stuff - classic toasting), anything by King Tubby, Prince Jammy and the like for dub. Big Youth is great, too.
Or, look at the various boxsets from Trojan - they've got some great stuff too, all the way from ska, through rocksteady, reggae, roots, lovers, dub. Any style you like....
You need to check out the 100% -600% Dynamite series from Soul Jazz records. Anything on the Studio One label. Also check out the soundtrack to The Harder They Come by Jimmy Cliff. Early Sly Robbie

In fact, the sun makes me want to listen to I Roy rightaboutnow. Hey!
Sister Nancy - Bam bam
Tenor Saw - Ring The Alarm
The Upsetters - Live Injection
Tribute to The Martyrs - Steel Pulse
Barrington Levy - Best of... Broader Than Broadway
Forces of Victory - Linton Kwesi Johnson (Love the dub!!)
blood and fire by niney the observer.
JIMMY CLIFF
SUGAR MYNOTT
GREGORY ISAACS
LKJ - Dred beat an blood.
Burning Spear's 'Marcus Garvey' is a personal favourote, as is the dub version of the same album 'Garvey's Ghost'.
+1 for the Congos' Heart of the Congos and the Heptones' Party Time.
Also, Jimmy Cliff's The Harder they Come soundtrack. At the dubbier end, Keith Hudson's Pick A Dub is a fave.
If you find an old late 70's UK band called 'Tradition' get it. For modern stuff I like a bit of smith and mighty.
+1 LKJ
+1 Barrington Levy
Supercat
Jah Shaka
Bundle of stuff from the On-U-Sound system
A load of Trojan stuff, Tighten up series
It's a shame that reggae never went properly mainstream in the 70's.
I think the big stations like R1 were a bit reluctant to put out this style of music. DOn't know why, but I suppose they were not too sure that people would like it, but then these broadcasters have never been trail blazers in new/alternative music.
+1 for Marcus Garvey by Burning Spear
It's a shame that reggae never went properly mainstream in the 70's.
I don't know, look at what happened when it did go mainstream. UBflipping40. Urgh.
Bitty McLean.
Chaka Demus and Pliers.
Shaggy.
All excellent suggestions so far. Has anyone mentioned the master - Lee Perry ?
For a more contemporary UK take on Dub reggae, checkout

Steel Pulse - Handsworth Revolution, a brilliant album. the big single of of this was Klu Klux Klan, a true classic.
Tapper Zukie, another great artist. 'Stop The Gun Shooting' is pretty relevant today.
All excellent suggestions so far. Has anyone mentioned the master - Lee Perry ?
