Has anyone gone for refurbished/graded rather than new on a large (55”) high-end TV... looking into the options after Samsung cocked up my order.

It looks like I can get a refurb for up to £300 less than the price I would have paid, but it ‘only’ has a 12 month warranty rather than the 5 year for the new.

I did it with a big, pricey PC monitor
You can get pixel-checking software (for a PC) that'll run through everything and you should spot any obvious problems from the off. AFter that, the (shorter but still existent ?) warranty should cover the difficult first couple of months and you're much less likely to get a failure after that

err, IMO

Thanks for the positive examples... I am hoping that Samsung will give me an upgrade to the bigger screen size, but so far they have only offered a crappy discount voucher.

I ordered a 49” telly through the Panasonic eBay outlet at the beginning of Jan. Prompt delivery, and most importantly, when I realised it had a fault a quick call had it replaced within 3 days. Current one is perfect.

I've bought loads of refurbished computers - generally they are something that might have a fault on delivery and for some other reason the customers not happy, then they fix the problem and soak test it but can't sell it again as new, although it often is no different.

Snap, sat currently watching my refurb Panasonic Plasma of a similar vintage, I keep umming and ahhing about replacing it but as it keeps on working and I dont have the budget for a OLED replacement it stays put.

as an aside, unovolo, I just bought a normal LED Samsung and the HD picture is easily as good, if not better, than the Panasonic Plasma I just replaced. Surprised me. But what with that and all the Smart features the Samsung has, I can’t believe I've waited so long!
(oh and the sound quality is soooo much better too!)
