Managed to send the mirror flying when wiping the windscreen in the focus.
How can I reattach the mounting clip to the glass?
As it's dark I couldn't see a great deal out there!

Carglass did mine for free when I showed them the receipt to show they'd glued it on.

Be careful, the wrong glue can trash your screen - no doubt a quick google will see you right.

You can get replacement sticky pad things.

Go to Halfords there's a special kit which does the job properly. IIRC theres some proper cleaning wipes to remove the old glue residue, some special gauze which reacts with the new glue and sets it good and proper.

Superglue

Definitely not superglue unless you want a severely weakend windscreen,

As others have said, get a proper windscreen adhesive - just not worth the risk by bodging it with anything you have lying around.

Just looked at the Halfords reviews of both the pads & glue.
Neither fill me with confidence!

For not much more than the glue you can get a mirror with a suction cup mounting.

The Halfords stuff (gauze & glue) is fine if you clean things off thoroughly and follow the instructions.
The pads I cant comment on.

Mirror came off our on our Golf and was causing a problem as the mounting also housed the wiper sensor - this meant that there was not a lot of surface area available to glue the mirror back onto the screen and the mirror weighed more than i expected due to all the electrical gubbins in contained.
Turns out the screen wasn't the original one and the people who fitted it just used the double sided tape which gave up fairly quickly.

Eventually had it refitted by a body shop friend but still cost about £70.
Proper fixing kit is about £50 I think and it took over an hour to do.

Oh, so how would superglue "severely weaken" a windscreen?

I've stuck one back on with superglue, and I'm fairly sure you'll find the specialist adhesives people are suggesting are CA.

The kit with the gauze is the way to go. I picked one up at my local motor factors.

They had seen one demonstrated at a trade show where they glued the rear view mirror to the outside of a windscreen, tied a rope to it and attatched it to a 4x4. They pulled the sceen clean out of the car and the mirror stayed attatched.

Re super glue your windscreen isnt just glass its a laminate of glass and plastics. Superglue can and does damage some plastics hence best not to go putting it on your windscreen. Those glue and mesh kits work a treat so long as the screen and mirror are cleaned thoroughly.

I'll pop into Halfords tomorrow to see if they've got the glue and mesh kits, the ones online didn't look as if they were.

The outside surface is glass. How are you expecting the superglue to come into contact with any internal layers?

As I mentioned before you'll also find that the specialist kits being recommended have glue which is very similar to superglue.

Superglue is too strong -coefficient of expansion is the issue I believe.

Halfords only had the stick pads without the gauze.
Couldn't see any on Ebay so if anyone can show me a link of where I can get the kit that would be great cheers.
