Well got informed today that we are halting operations immediately.

I work for a specialist marine contractor and the travel restrictions have caused issues but there's more to it. We were taken over by an equity company who didn't understand the business and are pulling the plug after 10 months.

We are a small multinational company and only have a handful of UK employees. The majority are in mainland Europe.

There is no interest in laying off staff on CVD19 deal, that would give the few of us in the UK some breathing room, until things improve. So it will be 6 weeks wages and bye bye.

Not sure how I am going to get bye, Mrs works in a hotel!

Absolutely shit.

Do I have any leverage to get the government wage support or is just job seekers for me?

Sorry to hear that.

See Lunge's offer on the 'help' sticky perhaps?

contact your local government representative. There maybe things in the C-19 bill which prevent this from happening. (i don't know, but the thing is over a 1000 pages so there must be something useful in it.)

Bugger, sorry about that mate.
Hope at the end of all this you'll be able to get back on track.

Sorry about that, maybe take some heart that it's 6 weeks wages tax-free, plus notice period etc... couple that with a 3 month mortgage holiday if you have one and you can probably stretch it out a decent amount.

It's a bad time to lose your job obviously, but in some respects it's a 'good' time with all the emergency legislation to take the strain off.

I'm looking like I'm in the same boat.
Been in contact with a few co's and there's hiring going on in the industry (brewing). Both permanent jobs as well as temp stuff - 2/3 month contracts covering someone who is isolating or caring or whatever, so worth looking around.

Can't offer anything but my sympathies. I know those us NHS folk are getting a lot of love at the minute, but I wouldn't swap with anyone facing the financial uncertainty this situation brings, I think I would struggle far more if I were worrying about the roof over my kids heads. Good luck.

In a similar boat but entirely not C19 related , just a company run into the ground by idiots. You'll get redundancy, notice pay, unpaid holiday etc which could go some way to help out.

First thing I did was contact anyone I owed money to and said I can't pay you. Got a couple of months on most things straightaway. This was a couple of weeks ago so before the shit really hit the fan, now I should imagine you may even get a bit longer.

Sorry to hear that. I'm expecting to be out of a job very soon. Working in oil and gas, and C-19 coupled with the oil price crashing is going to make things tough for a lot of companies. I'm only two months in to a new role aswell.

Really sorry to read this OP. Have to second the excellent advice already given in this thread, at least there's the cushion of six weeks' pay.

Hope that things return to normal as soon as.
