On the way back home tonight I'm sat at the traffic lights as they are on red. All of a sudden a Merc undertakes me and two other cars. Runs the red light at a crossroads and turns into incoming traffic.

I've got my dashcam running and noted the reg of the car. Which also has no MOT.

Would the DVLA or police even care if I contacted them? Next time it could hit a baby robin into a child's face etc

Depends on which police force you live under. There's huge amounts of variation  but some forces do have an online video submission portal for handling this stiff. Put it in twitter too for the shitz n giggles

Report it to the Police.

When they confirm it won't prejudice their enquiry, stick it on social media.

It would do no harm to report it to the police.

North Yorkshire Police have a website where dangerous driving can be reported by the public.

I thought the police lived hearing about this sort of stuff because it's an easy arrest

You've got solid evidence, call it in man!

As above you can report it, and you can link to a dashcam clip by uploading it anywhere and sending the link.

I reported a van that overtook me three times over a fortnight with a bent rear axle so it was crabbing down the dual carriageway and towing a trailer whilst speeding.  It must have been obvious to the driver as he would have been able to see half the trailer in one mirror and none the other!  Apparently he got a letter and I didn't see the van again.  (no dashcam)

And then I reported a guy who made a last minute dash from lane 3 to 1 cutting off a motorbike already joining the carriageway, couldn't stop for queueing traffic and had to swerve back into lane 2, and then stopped in my path.  I had dashcam for that one but they just made a note against his reg incase he collected any more complaints.

Send it in to your local Daily Mail owned local news outlet. They love content like that for their social media channels. It tends to go viral and attract lots of anger towards the driver. Good choice to make the driver's life difficult if the police aren't suitably proactive.

According to plod ,cars going through red lights when the safe to cross green man is lit  is nothing to do with them, “ it’s a council matter”.

The only crime they are interested in is if you are 5 minutes late back to your car.

My shop is on a crossroads and the lights go red , then a green man appears then after a while you get a 12 second count down, the man turns red and then the lights turn green. We have cars going through on the “safe to cross “ 12 second beeps. I once saw a police car watch a car go through the red light. Luckily he parked up in the loading bay outside my shop. When I asked why he hadn’t stopped a car that was going through why people were trying to cross he said “ it isn’t my patch.”

Last month a girl was knocked over on the 12 second beeps. The response ,exactly ****ing nothing.

One of the councillors suggested that we got the local schools to make a poster asking cars not to go through the lights.

It is now the accepted norm in this country that it is red light plus one car.

Yes it does **** me off and yes the cops could crackdown and hand out some big fines to generate some cash. Alas .it’s nothing to do with the cops.

****ers.

My god zippykona, you have terrified me, I am hoping you have misunderstood that situation. If not I can't believe what the cops are like now.

I would report it but not in a way that makes you publicly identifiable (Twitter etc.), might be a pool car used by a criminal gang for all you know and I wouldn't want a payback visit from them...

We have similar in our village, there's a pelican crossing on a busy main road, 30mph but very straight at this section of road so people tend to speed up a bit. It's a bloody lottery whether people actually stop at the lights when the turn red. Or people seem really shocked at the fact that people want to cross the road and scream to a stop just in time.

We contacted our councilor who contacted the council, and they sent a bloke out wearing a hi viz jacket to stand next to the crossing and watch the traffic for a bit. Apparently its fine......

Well it ****ing would be when there are yellow jacket wearing clipboard carrying ****s stood there!

If it had been someone on a bike id have suggested just running into the next few different cyclists you see or don't see and writing bile filled letters to the gutter press about how they all do it.

On the same crossroads I've seen a cycle  stop ahead of the lines but at the red light so he's visible to lorries.

A cop on a scooter gave him the blue light and sirens and made him go back to the line.

Must admit I went out and gave the cop a mouthful and tried to educate him.

He's a prick that has all the time to ticket cars but can't watch the traffic lights.

Guess it comes down to resources, reported a dangerous close pass that resulted in oncoming traffic on the blind bend having to stop dead to avoid a collision. MOT two months out of date, slam dunk for a word from the boys in blue I think.

We'll have a word if we come across them was the reply.

Four month later still no MOT, seeing the car driven like the drivers head was on fire reminded me (that and the distinctive personal plate).

If you want to watch cars jumping traffic lights go the junction of the A120 and Little Hadham in Herts. It's a cross roads with each of the 4 sides taking a turn. If you get stuck at one of the village sides it's an 8 minute wait at peak times. I stop at the red light and am regularly overtaken, I think the record is 6 cars, all turning into traffic on a fairly narrow bridge on the A road who have a green light. It's quite normal to get a green light but not be able to go because off the stream of cars jumping the light on the other side. In the 17 years I've been using the junction I've seen Police there twice, there are regular accidents.
