8hrs to load?!? That’s even longer than crystal castles took on my old acorn electron. Still, at least you don’t have to faff around with cassette tapes. Progress, huh? 😂😉

Not buying that then. I’ve a 2mb rural connection. That would take a week of continuous download.

That's the digital version but the disc version patch is probably pretty big.

I presume if you buy the game from a shop you won't need to do this?

You'll likely still have to download a big patch.

"If you've bought the Xbox One version of the game you're looking at a 107GB installation, while it's a 99GB download on PS4 (as well as needing an additional 50GB of free space for the installation process itself). As far as we're aware, that makes it the biggest PS4 game ever.

Those install sizes remain the same if you've got the disc versions"

Shit the bed.  I need to go on an uninstall spree.

I might pick it up in 3 years so it'll be cheap and fully patched and there's loads of mods out for it. It's the only way to buy games these days.

To be fair, R* are pretty good at not releasing games till they're ready.  Something as high-profile as this isn't likely to be a complete bugfest.

Generally I object on principle to paying full whack for games, prices are just silly.  I've made an exception for RDR2 though.

100gb at 10mbits - which is even less than 2 megabytes per (1.25) seconds should only take about 24 hours according to download time calculators.

It's not going to take a week...if you are on a 2 mbit connect it will take four days though.

Still, totes doable....

Rockstar pretty much bet it right straight away as they don't rush games year after year. Because of this the prices hold near original.

Yeah and it’s also the sequel to a pretty buggy game 😉

I’ll probably buy the disc version, mostly because it’s usually £15 cheaper.

My MO is to pick it up in the morning, slot it in the machine and leave it do it’s thing whilst I’m at work. I get 300Mbps at home, but I’ll never see that on launch day, I’ve seen it as low as 5Mbps on Xmas Day.

At my old house I got a whopping 4.5Mbps, I bought one of the Grand Tourismo games on PS3, that really was a horrible mess of a game 48 hours for day 1 patch.

The 25Gb disc will not quite hold 94Gb of data.

XboxOne and PS4 can read dual-layer Blurays I believe, so 50GB, it’s not unusual to have multi-disc games (GTAV came on 7 discs for PC!).

So in theory they could release a 2 disc game that’ll work ‘out of the box’ without a download, not saying they will though, much smaller games have been released “internet needed”.

In seriousness, there's little between the two.  The advice I usually give is "get what your mates have" then you can play online together.

Even if it lands a day early I don't think it will let you play it until the release date, will it?

I bought a digital copy the other day, it's downloaded onto my Xbox now,but won't let me play it.

The downside of being a teuchter is that the nearest stockist doesn’t  open till 6am, and post doesn’t get here till 2pm.

I’ve just woken to pictures on social media of one of my riding buddies, dressed in full cowboy gear, queuing outside Game at midnight last night. His joy was some what subdued when, at 1am, he put the disk in to find he had 4 hours worth of updates to DL...

tbh I thought technology had stopped all this silliness, evidently not...

I downloaded it on Wednesday on Xbox, there were no updates required when I put it on this morning, it went straight into the game. No time to play it, was just checking it would be ready for this evening.

My only surprise is how many people are surprised that it takes time to shift 100GB of data from a couple of discs to a HDD and install it into a working game.

I’ve just put the disc in my Xbox. It’s a 84.24GB disc install (I wonder if I’ll have to swap discs for all of it) and a 3.63GB network patch. I was getting a 90Mbps download so it’s servers are up to it at least.

Doesnt sound bad for rural internet players.

In fact, unless it decides to drop a surprise in my lap later on, I don’t think 4Mbps is going to be any sort of hinderence because I think you’d still download the network part quicker than you’ll get the data from the disc installed.

(I wonder if I’ll have to swap discs for all of it)

It asks for disc 2 at a smidge past 50% (which is unsurprising, a dual-layer Blu-ray disc holds 50GB).  Currently at 80% installed and it's been going an hour, unless it's Microsoft Progress Bar™, talk of a three hour install is excessive (unless the PS4 is a lot slower to install than the Xbox).

The human cost of creating and releasing RDR2 to schedule.

Be interesting to see how this plays out, not that I suspect we'll hear much more than RS would like us to hear.

Don’t know if this is a troll review on Amazon but it made me chortle - especially if they are being serious

Why is it so hard to stop killing animals and the disgusting so called sport of "hunting", in video games? You wouldnt hunt a human, a women or a child in a video game so why animals?

A DISGUSTING GAME BY ANYONES STANDARDS.

ROCKSTAR GIVE ME A GAME THAT I CAN HUNT DOWN HUMANS IN THE WOODS FOR FOOD AND LET THE ANIMALS HAVE REVENGE, SICK TO THE BACK TEETH OF SO CALLED HUMANITY IN THIS DAY AND AGE.

THE WAY THESE SO CALLED MACHO MEN THINK THERE HARD BECAUSE THEY EAT MEAT AND HUNT ANIMALS IS HILARIOUS,

SENT GAME BACK FOR A REFUND AND GOOD RIDDNACE.

Beautiful looking game, been playing a few hours now and it still feels like I’m in the pre-game ‘learning bit’ not very open world at the moment.

Still a stunning looking game, finding the controls very clunky.

Graphically it's amazing ( on Xbox one X anyway), controls do feel clunky at the moment, maybe it'll get better. It does feel a bit slow paced with a fair bit of trotting along with not much going on so far,but hopefully it'll get better.

Been kicked off the TV for the evening,so will probably give it another go tomorrow

Wife is about done with tv so I will get a couple of hours into it hopefully before I’m too knackered.  Heard there’s 5 or so hours of tutorial type stuff before it properly opens up.

Had thought I’d lucked out as wfh today but hadn’t factored in half term and the kids wanting to play their silly games   Don’t they realise Dad needs to get his westworld fantasies played out??
