Is there a 'job' for everyone, or are some people just not able to fit the usual narrow criteria, ie unemployable? I have a business, some funding fell through and i need a job asap. on paper I seem very well qualified, I have experience at quite high levels in a broad range of positions, business experience in many countries, but looking at job adverts, I think I'm from the wrong planet. What's the best option for a mis-fit? Apart from the sex industry or stacking shelves.... do companies recruit unusual freaks or do they want conformists? Where is the best place to look for unusual positions, ahem

As a mis-fit, you're best off becoming a recruitment consultant. 🙂

I don't want to be a consultant, although a consultant gynecologist role has some appeal

I am also one of the 'odd' bunch of Recruitment Consultants (my own firm though) and it really depends who and what you are? Agencies should really point you in the right direction if they cannot help.. So let me know what you do and I will do my best to help/show/run off with my tail between my legs.

It’s a funny market out there very much client driven rather than candidate. The client is if aloud very particular about what they are looking for and so the candidate has to tick most if not all the boxes. Sector experience is now essential rather than preferred and if you have done allot in your career its best to focus your search rather than say you are open on location, sector and role. If you are a good number 2 then know your place pride aside and only apply for those sorts of roles.

There is nothing worse than candidates who apply for all and every role when we all know you can’t be so stick to what you know best and where your strengths lie.

Hope this helps and if its £60K and above within finance you are looking, drop me a PM.

Strange but I'm a similar situation, loads of experience in a number of decent positions but there seems to be nothing out there for me?
Spent the last 12 years in insurance but the jobs at my level seem very difficult to come by now.

Oh well, I'll just keep on riding my bike 😀
