Has anybody any experience recording tv to a USB hard drive. I have tried a western digital external drive. TV recognised it and started to format but then stopped and would only then recognise the device as a usb drive (would not allow recording). I tried this on our Sony TV, and my mother's Samsung. I wanted to get this for my mother to keep recording TV simple for her. Any advice appreciated.
Try another hard drive. Never had any issue using hard drives or 128gb usb sticks in my 2015 sony tv.
Bear in mind you cannot, or couldnt, record whilst watching another channel, so its somewhat limited.
It was right pain on my panasonic. Was very fussy about the drive then pretty fussy about when it would play back. How is it simple anyway? Surely a freeview+ box is way simpler. Just press record on the remote.
Blimey I didn't even know you could do it. I'm still using a Sony Hard Drive Recorder.
I'm not saying they don't exist, but I've never seen a TV that could record to USB, only play back from it. Though I've not looked at TV tech in a couple of years.
Both TV's say they can do this and it came up with a warning that the recording will only play back on the TV it was made on before trying to format the drive. It did say it will not work with solid state drives or flash drives.
-nickjb, this is easier as she will only have one remote to deal with, then just use the TV guide to select the program she wants then press record (well that was the theory).
