We've got a camper hired for a few days next year to test how we like a bit of vanlife.

Was thinking North Wales/Snowdonia would be a good first destination as there's plenty for us to do with a little one... Various zip world activities, slate mines, bounce below, port merion etc. Done some of this stuff before but the little one will be at an age where she'll be able to do a bit more and really love it. Plus I'll hopefully get the chance to get a ride or two in somewhere.

So anyone got any recommendations for a site they thought was really special, had great amenities, near to the best pub, centrally located or had the best view?

Basically want to get an unrealistic, perfectly idyllic first experience so that we end up buying a van of our own 😄😜

Cae Gwyn is in a lovely location just up the road from Coed y Brenin:

It’s in the middle of nowhere but has basic amenities and stunning views.

Nant Gwynant- only fails on the pub criteria, but has an on site bar/takeaway, and water sports from your pitch.

Henstent Park in Llangynog is nice. Only camped there though. Pub a 5min walk away and you're on the doorstep of Revolution Bike Park.

We stayed at Fronalchen campsite a couple of months ago. Really liked it - set in a few completely flat fields surrounded by a river on one side and hills all round it - very scenic.

The lady running the site was very friendly and they allow campfires and bbqs - they even supplied a fire pit and wood to burn in it for no extra charge.

No electric pitches though - we stayed in one of their glamping style bell tents which was enormous and really cool. Randomly they’ve put bathrooms in individual sheds for the bell tents and shepherds huts which was amusing.

Nant Gwynant

Llyn Gwynant only allows smaller vans on site, and only even smaller ones onto the camping field (VW sized). Unless it’s changed in the last 12 months, their dedicated camper van pitches are grim and very expensive (you pay for a car park).

(Nice enough site otherwise.)
