I know this has been asked before, but I'm sure everyone's keen to recommend what they've discovered!

Stuff I've listened to :

Adam Buxton
Louis Theroux
Infinite monkey cage
Curious cases
Serial (series 1)
13 minutes to the moon
Crypto queen
Exit scam

What really bloody interesting (subjective obviously) podcast should I listen to next? Can be about pretty much anything (maybe not sports!) Just want something gripping, or mind expending!

99% Invisible

I think it was at its best in its early days - it has more of radio-show format and duration these day - but in its early form its was shorter and richer (not in the Bernie Eccleston sense) each episode was only the length it needed to be to tell the story - some were almost pop-song short - and were sensorial in their production

Dig back through their back catalogue for the episodes on Imperfect Escalators, Frozen Music, and The Sound of Sport

FUTILITY CLOSET is a good listen - throughly researched essays on odd, quirky and forgotten bits of history. Its sort of clever and gentle. Their website is really good too. Interesting little snippets just short enough to keep clicking 'next page' for ages

More or less…. Is that the radio 4 show?

If you do the podcast you get the longer Radio 4 programs  but also shorter ones that go out on the World Service

if you're into music then:

a history of musich in 500 songs

is astonishing. Im just working my way through it and find it hilarious and fascinating.

I'm patreon subscriber of:

The Bunker
Oh god what now

don't know where I'd be without those 2, they're my main news source now

Rockonteurs
is also good, enjoyed the Noel Gallagher and david coverdale interviews in particular

Another +1 for More or Less. Probably my favourite thing on the whole BBC (either that or Hey Duggee).

Also worth a look are:
- The Anthropocene Reviewed - The premise sounds a bit too smartarse to be good (guy rates aspects of the human era on a 5 star scale) but it's one of the most informative and emotionally enriching things I've ever heard.

- Reply All - a podcast about the internet. Has had a bit of a shuffle and is re-finding its feet at the moment but the 'Case of the Missing Hit' is a classic bit of podcasting: https://gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-all/o2h8bx . They have other great episodes too.

Behind the Bastards

I love the podcast, just wish he'd stop messing with bagels. Machetes are OK though.

I highly recommend the lazurus heist. A real insight to IT security. Just don't click on unknown links, you could lose a billion dollars!

Wind of Change - did the CIA write the Scorpions song that was a hit across eastern europe at the time of the fall of the Berlin wall? The answer is looong and a little rambling, but worth a listen.

A classic. I've only just listened to the one with the rugby club on a tour of Spain and the policemen leafing through a suspect's photo album in front of his wife.

Like a shoe!

Anyway, A Thorough Investigation is well worth a listen.
