We're off there for 4 nights in early January. Booked for my 50th. Staying slap bang in the middle of the old town, a short walk from the Astronomical Clock at a lovely little hotel. One night is booked to see 'The Nutcracker' ballet. Thinking of the Italian restaurant on the river for one night, the hotel's restaurant another.

Usual stuff, Castle, main square, the 'clock'. Anything else we shouldn't miss ? First time there, and I know it will be cold.

Do we bother with the metro etc, as comfortable walking - we're in no rush.

Not cheap, but amazing views of the city and food so good that the now MrsTH agreed to marry me there.

(And recommended to me on here, so I’m passing the favour on)

We did a river cruise at night. Great food and the band were very good. It was that cold at the end of January that the boat was breaking the ice on the river as we were going up and down.

Great ideas. Family have asked what I want, and I've just said currency as I don't need anything TBH, and this could pay for a really nice meal.

We went years ago but I remember looking for all the Mission: Impossible locations from the first film. Just lovely to mill about, visiting shops and bars. One thing that stuck with me I think was the Black Light Theater, we saw a production of Faust, thought it was going to be a tourist trap but I really enjoyed it.

Naše maso for a burger, I'd go back just for this alone. It's take away from a butcher but we'll worth a stop or two. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g274707-d6783641-Reviews-Nase_maso-Prague_Bohemia.html

Lokál,for some dark beer and trad food. Next door almost to Nase maso.

The farmers market next to the river for grilled cheese sandwiches and beer.

Very much use public transport to get from the airport. It's by far the cheapest quickest method. Its a bus then metro, all explained here.

Take a walk across Charles Bridge, then climb up to Prague Castle & cathedral.

Jewish cemetery & museum, just so as to remember what the Nazis did. Never forget.

Boat trip may be a bit nippy at this time of year

I’m told the zoo is worth a visit

It'll take twice as long 3 times in rush hour. But as it's booked go with it.

To experience traditional Czech beer / drinking culture, try a beer hall like U Zlateho Tygra. You sit at large tables and are served pilsner almost continuously. If you don't want more you need to put the beer mat over the top of the glass. That hall is famous because a former president took foreign dignatories there, e.g. Bill Clinton which scared the crap out of US security who like to scout everywhere first.

All sorts of interesting cocktail bars, steampunk, and also very good beer pubs with far more variety than pilsner.

Keep a close eye on your phones, wallets, purses and bags. My wife nearly had her phone lifted from her bag while waiting for a tram one evening. The bag was zipped closed and the zip is quite stiff but they still managed to get it open and the phone half out before she noticed. If the tram hadn’t arrived at that point she might not have moved her bag and felt some resistance.

Sadman’s Tongue Bar & Bistro was great for a burger. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g274707-d10820086-Reviews-Sad_Man_s_Tongue_Bar_Bistro-Prague_Bohemia.html

Do we bother with the metro

You've got to use the metro just to see some of the stations, they are great, like being inside a Dalek!

The National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror is worth a visit.

River cruise, Torture Museum, TV Tower, Karlovy Lazne, Museum of Communism not necessarily in that order.

Oh and the first time I visited we went to watch the Ice Hockey, that was a good night out.

I’ve booked private taxi from/to airport. Speed….

IME Metro is probably quicker..

Vsyrehad is nice walk around and gives a good view of the city and river.
Also Petrin Hill and the mini Eiffel tower then walk over to the castle.
Not sure if the Communism Musuem is still open (near to Wencelas Square).
The railway station whilst small is a nice place to check out.

You might laugh about teeth straightening. We had my brother's stag do in Budapest, and in the ground floor of our hotel was a dental practice specialising in all this. Too top it off, both the best man and my brother are dentists. We said if we ran out of cash, they could moonlight for us.

Go to the train restaurant! They deliver drinks on a giant model train set, it's a hoot.

The monastery is also lovely for a beer/grub.

It still is we were there in August, it's more a long read than exhibs although there are some. Very anti communist in tone but pretty interesting. It was Taxi jnr's favourite thing in Prague.
