I'm looking for a few recommendations for software alternatives/bolt-ons to MS-compatible office software with a view to making things a bit more robust across our three-office set-up. Happy to pay to get what we want but after several underwhelming presentations by various solution providers, I've shifted focus from trying to find one product that improves everything, to improving the things within the MS Windows + Exchange environment that, on the whole, does what we want it to do. If the following 'list' goes beyond the realms of reasonable questions here, I can cut to the chase and speak to someone directly if you can recommend me someone ...

1. Email filing for Outlook: map project folders into Outlook, so emails can be easily dragged into the project folders in file explorer, rather than using Outlook public folders;

2. Intranet forms which can be populated by Outlook contacts db. Forms functions should also be able to do things like set up new project folders in file explorer e.g. if a new project is set up through the form;

3. We access projects through file explorer. I've long thought there must be an alternative way to do this, so users don't have control over the directory structure. But as yet, I've not found something that does this, but offers all the functionality of file explorer. So, is there a way of 'locking' File explorer i.e. so a parent project directory cannot be accidentally dragged into another project directory, or parent root directories can't be renamed?;

4. Can you recommend me an external IT support company who can task a single person (for consistency) to look after our day-to-day system and roll out new hardware, phones etc. We're Gloucestershire-based so proximity to the office would be useful (even if day-to-day support is remote).

Likewise, if you do this sort of thing yourself, I'd like to hear from you.

Thanks,

So you want somewhere where the staff are never on holiday? 🙂 A bit like the Tory's saying every patient in the NHS should have a single point of contact...

Best thing you could do is search for a local IT Services Company, owner-Manager type - and go from there, get some recs from their clients.

Focus on service, not price and treat them as a partner not supplier.

Let's not get political about it... Lots of people are using this software on a day to day basis, so someone might be using something they like and it works and can recommend it to someone else.
