You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Based on real events drama type things. Others we've seen and enjoyed:
The Mauritanian (about a fella in Guantanamo)
Official Secrets (GCHQ whistleblower)
The Laundromat (Panama papers)
Spotlight (reporting about abuse in the US Catholic church)
Any others to look out for?
American Made
Catch Me If You Can
Wolf Of Wall Street
Yep, seen them and enjoyed them.
Snowden
Sully
Bridge of Spies
The Founder
Deepwater Horizon
Cocaine Bear
Moneyball is on Netflix at the mo (or one of the other streamers).
Based on a book by the author of The Big Short, pretty good film too.
If you haven't seen Chernobyl and have access to Sky content, it's one of the most-impressive TV shows I've ever seen.
Following thread with interest.
Margin Call - basically looking at the 2008 bank collapse from the inside of a fictional version of Lehman Brothers.
Moneyball +1 - entertaining stuff.
The Social Network is a good watch.
The Imitation Game with Bendydick Cucumberpatch.
Going back a bit - Erin Brockovich is Dark Water but with Oscars.
Other 'based on true stories and including Tom Hanks' that I still enjoy: Apollo 13, Captain Phillips.
Sully - Seen it (on nmy own, MrsIHN can't stand Tom Hanks)
Bridge of Spies - (as above, but Leo D)
Cocaine Bear - Can't wait 🙂
Moneyball - Seen it
Chernobyl - Seen it
The Founder - I'm interested, MrsIHN might need some persuasion
Deepwater Horizon - Yeah, will look out for that
Margin Call – Seen it
The Social Network - Seen it, she HATED it 🙂
The Imitation Game - Seen it
Erin Brockovich - Seen it (mmm, Julia....)
Well, then, you'll have to bring out the big guns. We are in the World Cup, after all!
Here's a review that will convince you, if the trailer doesn't.
Sully – Seen it (on nmy own, MrsIHN can’t stand Tom Hanks)*
The Founder – I’m interested, MrsIHN might need some persuasion**
* Whaaaaaaaaat?!!!
** It's very good, watched it twice.
I wouldn't recommend catch me if you can, the conman who it is based on is now admitting it's all a load of walter mitty
Charlie Wilson's war is a good film, Philip Seymour Hoffman is great in it (as always)
Remember, thanks but NO HANKS!

Errrrrrrr, I'll pass on United Passions ta.
Seeing as someone recommended a non-film already, if you've not already seen it, you should definitely watch Dopesick.
The Greasy Strangler.
Not sure how accurate it is but it's a hard watch.
The Courier - Another based on true events spy film with Bumblespank Humptydick in it.
The Post - Pre Watergate events film with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks.
A mini series rather than a film, but 'the serpent' I thought was very good.

EDIT,
also 'the Mole' is superb, and quite frankly, mind blowing!

The Dish
Syriana
The Insider
Michael Mann in great form. About the tobacco company whistleblower. Great performance from Russel Crowe and a nicely restrained one from Al Pacino
Judging by what you have seen, All the Presidents Men is just too obvious. Always worth a revisit
Argo - a great "fact stranger that fiction"
Lord of War (guns sold from Ukraine to Africa in the 1990's)
Fidel Up Close (Biography on Fidel Castro)
Zodiac
Vice - the biopic of Dick Cheney from the same director as THe Big Short (and much the same cast).
Hidden figures
The Rescue is very good, about the Thai boys trapped in the cave. The fictionalised film of the same thing is good too, 13 Lives directed by Ron Howard. I've not watched the Netflix series about the same thing, I thought enough's enough with the caves!
Last King of Scotland? Great film although quite how much is true I'm not sure, because of the variability of the source material not the directors fault (Idi Amin was completely unhinged to put it mildly)
Argo – a great “fact stranger that fiction”
Good one.
Feel free to mention if these reccos are currently one popular streaming services BTW folks.
War Dogs was unexpectedly great (I am a big Jonah Hill fan tho!) and is apparently based on a true story/stories although considerable dramatic license is used... it does seem very plausible though (i.e. nothing too wacky/unrealistic)
Feel free to mention if these reccos are currently one popular streaming services BTW folks.
not currently available for "free" streaming, sadly. (You can use the Jus****ch website to check stuff quickly!)
MrsIHN can’t stand Tom Hanks
Eh? There is literally nothing to not like about him? Amazing actor, really nice bloke. Mrs IHN needs a word with herself.
Thread hijack, the Desert Islands Discs episode with Tom Hanks is one of my all time favourites, one of the few I've listened to multiple times (along with Eric Winkle Brown episode)
Blackkklansman
The Report
My Mrs doesn't like Tom Hanks either. I agree theres nothing really to dislike. So i just think she's odd.
Margin Call – basically looking at the 2008 bank collapse from the inside of a fictional version of Lehman Brothers.
Not based on Lehman, that's kind of the point of the denouement. they sell out their clients to survive, something Lehman singularly failed to do!
Worth is on Netflix and is very very good. It is about agreeing the compensation scheme for victims of 9/11. A first class film.

Lord of War (Selling guns from Ukraine to Africa in 1990's)
Fidel up close (Biography of Fidel Castro)
Also, the Traumazone series by Adam Curtis about the breakup of the Soviet Union and rise of Putin/gansterism. Not as heavy as it sounds
Marvelous, starring Toby Jones. Not what you are looking for but based on a real person. And it's guaranteed to cheer you up too!
If Big Short and Margin Call float your boat then give this a go "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room".
A documentary rather than film but good none the less.
Citizen X https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0112681/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
Soviet serial killer story, that they allowed to kill and kill again because they wouldn't admit having one due to serial killers being a "symptom of western decadence".
Bit different to the above but "I Tonya" is well worth a viewing if you haven't seen it.
Not based on Lehman, that’s kind of the point of the denouement. they sell out their clients to survive, something Lehman singularly failed to do!
Maybe they've blended in a bit of Goldman Sachs, who did offload their position ahead of the market, but the name of the fictional CEO is a clue that they took inspiration from Lehman too.
If you are into TV miniseries, We Own This City is pretty sobering viewing.
Bad Boy Bubby should be on everyone's must watch list.
Bit different to the above but “I Tonya” is well worth a viewing if you haven’t seen it.
Best comment I heard about I,Tonya was that Margot Robbie thought it was a fictional script when she first read through it!
If you are into TV miniseries, We Own This City is pretty sobering viewing.
absolutely. almost hard to believe that sort of stuff happens.
American Gangster is pretty epic, though you’ve likely seen it.
Lots of good suggestions up there. Seen most of them. Found The Post a bit underwhelming personally. Surprised no one has mentioned King Richard. Found that an excellent film.
Also, a lot older now, but A Dry White Season was also quite a profound film when I first saw it.
I enjoyed The Laundromat based on the true story of shell companies and the Panama Papers
not based on true stories, but bloody good films you may or may not have seen....
