We (my better half and myself) are planning a road trip around France in August. Starting in the North taking in some historic WW1 & 2 sites (the Somme, Normandy beaches etc) and then heading South to MontP and then heading back up through the Alps.
I'm sure many people on STW have done something similar and I'm looking for recommendations for sensibly priced accomodation across France - whether its chains or just websites with small B&Bs to stay in that won't break the bank.
Any suggestions?

Did a tour of provence a few weeks ago, and the two that stood out as very nice, friendly and reasonably priced were:
around pont du gard (well worth seeing) --

on the way towards the alps, near forcalquier --

Friends of ours run a company called Stopover Connections who arrange accommodation in French B&Bs and small hotels. I'm sure if you email with a suggested budget and itinerary you might find something through them?
