We're off out for dinner with friends tonight and can't decide where to go so I thought I'd come to the fount of all knowledge about absolutely everything (that's STW) for some recommendations.

The front current front runner is the Purple Poppadom but it doesn't have to be curry.

Jamies Italian?

The place in the 'diff at the moment is the Potted Pig

http://www.thepottedpig.com/about-us

at the top of High Street by a pub called the Goat Major...which you should probably call in.

Rugby weekend mind, so there'll be lots of sweaty men in kilts

See this thread here too on gwlad rugby for up to date Cardiff dining

http://forum.gwladrugby.com/showthread.php?t=200117

you may have to register for gwlad...but it's epic

I wasn't that impressed with Jamie's Italian the one time I've been there (I refuse to queue out the door for some food) but the Potted Pig is great. FIsh@85 in Pontcanna was first choice but is fully booked. Some good suggestions on that Gwlad thread too, thanks for that.

I always enjoy it when the Scotch come to Cardiff for the 6 Nations.

Aye...Jamies was a bit of a tongue in cheek suggestion...ok for lunch with the kids though.

Purple Poppadom is on my list of places to go.

I would never eat at Jamies' Italian! But JMO!
Mint and Mustard (curry best ever except in India!) on Whitchurch Road, Cathays, definately have to book though. That or Cinnamon Tree would probably say M&M is a bit better.

If you want a really nice Italian with good wines try Casanova just off at Mary's street! Small menu that changes as fresh produce comes in season! For me the best Italian in Cardiff, with really friendly staff, worth booking on a weekend though! Should be able to find it on google

Thanks for the suggestions, I think the Purple Poppadom has just been booked. It's run by the same guy that did the Mint and Mustard so should be good.
