After the recent storm induced power cut, I am looking to improve my battery lighting options.

I have plenty of head torches, bike lights etc. But none were really ideal.

Looking for something to hang or stand on a table, to light an area.

It would be good to have an option for "normal" batteries as well as rechargeable.

There are hundreds on Ebay and Amazon, some way too cheap.

Looking for something at around £20 - £30.

Any suggestions?

Alpkit Lampray. Use it for camping, bike races, emergency house use, rummaging around in cupboards etc.

No option for normal batteries though.

Bang on budget - I got mine for a silly bargain price (£7 I think - I assume a pricing error) but it's still great value at £30. I have used it for camping trips, working in the loft, late night pet feeding etc.

Link

Edit - I see it has some bad reviews but mine has been perfect - I have had it about four or five years and it's been faultless.

If you get a usb rechargeable one then you can use a power bank to recharge it. No need for a normal battery option, which will probably limit your options quite a bit. I've got a couple of cob work lights that are cheap and bright

Non rechargeable for me. No way they’d have lasted through the weekend for us. Also having to have them topped up in case they’re needed. Use ordinary batteries but not fitted, just stored next to the lamps.

I have a couple of the lampray type ones (they’re generic, available in loads of places) and they’re good for camping. Can work as a mini USB powerbank too.

A gas lantern is also a good idea as it adds heat as well as light. That is if you only have electric heating.

If you've got any battery tools get the bare lamp.
I've got the Makita - coupled with the 5ah battery it lasts weeks and puts out plenty of light in either half lantern, full lantern or torch mode.

That Alpkit one looks remarkably like one I got from AliExpress for about £3.50. It's excellent for £3.50.

I also have one branded Lanktoo on Amazon which is much brighter and longer lasting, and can be a pretty decent power bank too. Warm and white light options also.

If you get a usb rechargeable one then you can use a power bank to recharge it. No need for a normal battery option,

Or - I have a (Ebay special) USB T6 LED bike light (spot type) that I bought a few years ago for £10 posted.

It operates from any power bank and best of all comes with a silicone diffuser bulb that just slips over the top. Make a loop for it and hang it anywhere, or just leave it on the table.

I use a large Anker Anker PowerCore 20100 while camping, and combined with the above light I’ve never had to think about it running out. On the bike I use a smaller power bank for it, located in a top-tube bag. It’s an ideal bikepacking light and camping light, the diffuser is excellent.

These days though I tend to use a tiny Thrunite H01 torch/headlight for everything as it comes out of the cradle and has a magnet. With the above diffuser dropped over it too becomes a lantern whenever needed. Easy to buy a few more rechargeable batteries for it too. Runtimes:

Middle 50 Lumens - 7 Hours
Low 5 Lumens 60 Hours
Firefly 0.5 Lumens - 15 Days

Did someone say something about 20000 lumen work light for camping?

Can you give fair warning where you’ll be staying 😎
