Every year my wife and her friends go on a long weekend. They're struggling for ideas this year, so asking hive mind for suggestions, requirements are:
Nice beach
Warm early Sep
Short flight
Old town to explore
Good food
Some activities (i.e sea kayaking or similar)
Extra points for a bit unusual or off the beaten path.
What you got?
Malaga. The actual city, which is a proper little European city with everything you could want in it. Not the hideous resorts either side of it.
Jersey. Had a fab weekend away there with my wife. Cheap for the UK too.
Poole. In Dorset. Yes really, it’s lovely.
Letterkenny in Co donegal. Beaches are stunning, food and nightlife awesome for somewhere so remote. Easy to get to via Derry airport. Donegal allegedly has an airport. 2 flights a day from Glasgow. You may have to share the cabin with sheep. It will rain.
Short flight
All depends where you live.
Arisaig.
Norfolk.
Porto
Sevilla
Vigo
Genoa
Geneva
Split
Naples
San Remo
Blackpool
Short flight
All depends where you live.
Papa Westray. You won't get any shorter.
Barcelona .
Verona/Lake Garda
Millom
Nice beach - silecroft
Warm early Sep - yup, in a coldish kind of way
Short flight - there's an airport, sort of
Old town to explore - errrrr, yup
Good food - King Billies
Some activities (i.e sea kayaking or similar) - Haverigg for sailing and the prison
Extra points for a bit unusual or off the beaten path. In. The. Bag.
I don't know about flights from where you are but clermont ferrand France is a lovely city to wonder around. Volcano to take a cable car up. Nice food (beuf cafe) and drink (salvation Jane).
Valencia
Bilbao with a trip to San Sebastián. Bilbao has beaches but not in town. San Sebastián ticks the boxes but not as easy to get to.
Jamaca.
Venice. Fab and despite the tourists there are still back streets to explore that aren’t busy. And a beach at the lido. There are companies doing sea kayak tours - so much better than sitting in a gondola.
Nice if they haven't all ready been.
Casablanca
Tenby
Cleethorpes.
I like that name. If I ever get a dog, I'd name it Cleethorpes.
Or S****horpe.
I really enjoyed Barcelona and Seville for short breaks, but mentioned above
Essaouira in Morocco? More relaxed vibe than rest of Moroccan tourist places, lots of watersports and some good places to eat.
Porto.
Dubrovnik
Apparently Croatia is a popular destination with women seeking adventures.
Barra
Pollensa in September, cracking beach one and a half euro away on bus. Climate great. You will be in the good books if she picks there unless Magaluf is more her style
Centre Parcs?
Tell me this, supersesh, how far away do you want her to be?
Barcelona, or a leftfield Almeria, or San Jose or Mojacar to the east. Roquetas de Mar is not nice.
Poole. In Dorset. Yes really, it’s lovely.
Really? We went this weekend for a spontaneous night away. Seafront/Old town/quay were nice, Poole Park was nice, but the rest of the town was not what I'd call 'lovely'. Not terrible, but not lovely.
Anyway, I'll say Malmo in Sweden, just might not meet the 'warm' criteria.

Port Soller; nice little place with no British hooligans, decent restaurants and plenty to do.
Or Beirut. Seriously. The Lebanese people are charming and hospitable and the food is the best in the world.
Malaga. The actual city, which is a proper little European city with everything you could want in it.
Agreed on the city, I love it - but I couldn't find a decent beach there.
May I suggest Cadiz? Sometimes a bit blowy, but a stunning place.
