will be in nowich town centre this saturday night and will need to eat somewhere. any recommendations? im after a nice pub type place or restaurant but im not after your average burger and chips pub.anywhere that little bit better than the norm or special?
any good/different/quirky pubs also?

The Belgium Monk next to the market is worth a visit, specialises in mussels and traditional Belgium dishes.
Been for an evening meal once in Norwich (as my customer contract is based there) and that was a Chinese buffet on Wherry Road.
Not your usual sh1te and really enjoyable.
If you have your back to the Rail Station it's a walk to the left and cross over the main A147 road and onto the pedestrianised Wherry Road.
It's one of the first places on your right just past Fitness First. Seemed to have a large contigent of Chinese people eating there which must mean it's relatively good in my book.
Wherry Road has a few other (chain) eateries as well I believe.
Don't think it's particularly central but was convenient for me as I always stay at the Carrow Road Holiday Inn.

Bagley's Bistro would be my choice. Bit eclectic* Round the back of Jarrolds, Back of the inns area. Near what I know as the BelgianMonk, but not really next to the market.
* my choice is based on growing up in in n Norfolk and having left in 1995 with only weekend parent visiting since then.

Not sure about "good/different/quirky pubs" in the city centre. They're all much the same, to be honest.
Thumbs up for the Belgian Monk, the St Benedicts Street/Pottergate area (old medieval streets) is probably your best bet for a few others in walking distance of city centre, the Plough on St Benedicts is very good (not sure if they do food though). The bar attached to the Norwich Playhouse is nice and offbeat, though the vibe/crowd will depend on what's on in the Playhouse itself. I'm afraid I'm struggling to think of good non-chain restaurants to be honest.
If you like your ales, then it would be rude not to visit the Fat Cat on West End Street (opposite Streetlife Cycles for a bit of bike perving too). No food, but loads of great real ales (usually a dozen or so on handpump and similar number on gravity) including their own microbrews - deservedly a regular CAMRA award winner. It's a bit further out of the city but well worth the trip.
jump in the car and head to Gt.Yarmouth and book at a table at the Yankee Traveller restaurant. It was originally Zaks, but they sold out their Norwich restaurants (which are good, but not quite as good).
absolutely awesome American-style food. Proper burgers cooked to your order.
the restaurant was originally started up over 30yrs ago by wives of the American oil/gas guys who came over to open up the gas fields off the coast.
i now live in the New Forest, but go back for dinner there every time I visit.

Used to live just outside Norwich 20 odd years ago. Are the Waffle House and Pizza One and Pancakes Too still going? They were good.
EDIT - just Googled and it seems they are, which is nice.
The Waffle House is still here, and still exactly the same, but Pizza One went a few years ago. It's a Zizi now sadly. It's a bit late now for a recommendation, but my current favourite is the Workshop on Earlham Road, near the RC cathederal (and my house).
