I'm overwhelmed with choice!

We are going to be visiting the London Aquatics Centre this morning whilst a mate and his Australian family are at the Tower Of London, we are all going to meet up at 1pm for lunch, but where???

It's lovely weather which will suit outdoors dining. As always I'm more at the budget end, so not The Ivy etc.

Recommendations of a location and venue much appreciated 👍🏻

Plenty of chains on eg: South Bank but a bit different, sort of open air and bound to find something for everyone at https://mercatometropolitano.com/

One a few stops away at Canary Wharf, one at Elephant and Castle. Or could just go to Borough Market but that's more 'in your hand' than sat down [edit and not open Monday so forget that one]

Not sure what the vibe will be like Monday lunchtime but evenings when I've been it's very nice and laid back.

One of the riverside pubs in Wapping would be a nice place to spend a couple of hours on a sunny afternoon. Can't say I've eaten in any of them, but imagine it's standard pub grub.

St Katherine's Dock is pleasant and has a few chain restaurants. Avoid the pub who's name escapes me. Was always a tourist trap dump though that may have changed in the 10-20 years since I was last there.

If your friend has young family, Giraffe or Wagamama are pretty safe bets (albeit chain restaurants). Both on the South Bank so it's a nice place for a walk after, too.

For Pub style food, If you can book outside seating the Horniman at Hays is not too expensive on the river with views to city, tower, Tower bridge Belfast etc. Sat outside there recently and It was not a bad place to be (inside is standard pub) South bank, also on river are Founders Arms, Doggetts coat and Badge. Other side of river is The Banker.

Also as said above chains around St Katherine's are OK. Pub there is Dickens Inn which can be hit and miss.

Further East (Wapping) on the river there's is the Town of Ramsgate, Prospect of Whitby and the Captain Kidd.

The Tower Hotel overlooking Tower Bridge. You can turn up on the day, but seats not guaranteed, so you have to sit at the bar, give them a ring to book a table (Ive just looked , no online bookings available today, try them by ringing, but they usually fit you in at the bar, which isnt bad anyway). Reasonable prices, pizza is around £16. Great views out to the bridge. Quite relaxed, not at all formal setting. Staff have always been really nice to us when we’ve visited. Its the Vicinity bar you want, the other ones only open in the evening.

Smokestak in Shoreditch. Does have some outside seating, never used it though.

Or find a Street food place closer to where you are. The pubs/tourist places around the Tower are pretty naff from distant memory.

Grab some sarnies from M&S and sit by the river for a glorious picnic in the sunshine!

East Street (Asian food) just off Tottenham Court Road is very good, very informal and very reasonably priced.

Sorry, I missed the 'outside dining' bit - it doesn't have anything outside, sorry.

If you do go to st Catherine's Dock see if you can spot the prototype monolith for 2001 Space Odyssey. I'd pop into the Waitrose on the other side of the dock for scotch eggs and sandwiches, then sit on a bench near David Wynne's Girl with a Dolphin sculpture. See if you can guess which tennis star modelled for the girl

Just stroll along the south bank to Borough Market. There'll be something there - even on a monday - to satisfy everyone. And then you can see by the water.

Cheers all, we have settled on meeting at St Paul's Cathedral and grabbing some food there and then wander around and over the millennium bridge 👌🏻

best variety of food near St Pauls is probably along Watling Street, just to the south of Cheapside
