Having a staycation this year and wanting to find some place nice to stay in Cornwall for the 1st week in September. Hopefully it should be getting a bit quieter by then.
Taking the MTBs and the surf stuff as well as the dog. Pub proximity a bonus.
B&B, cottage etc.

What have you got?

Depending on budget Retallack is good.

Thanks for the speedy response team!
OK, to narrow it down a bit ideally walking distance to a surf spot.

Trebarwith strand, search for cumbrae holidays, or if there's just two of you smugglers cottage which is literally built in to the rock, I will be staying in that cottage one day with just mrsws. I've got karrek view this for August down at trebarwith, it's now mine mine mine every year for that week unless we turn down the option. It really is a lovely spot in September, stayed previously in little ruffo. Walk down in your wetsuit from all the cottages at treb.

Rent my house? Oak framed eco house 1.5 miles from the beach (think we still have availability that week)
Mtb potential from the front door, the two best beaches in north Cornwall down the road
In a village called Stibb, near bude

We have done Padstow last 4 years and will be again this year, has everything we want for a holiday. One of the caravan / camping sites at Mother Ivy's Bay, wander down to Harlyn Bay, Constantine Bay for the surf (OK, drive to a closer car park would be easier, but you can walk to them from there). Or somewhere around Padstow itself, we usually take the caravan down there to the touring park in the summer, but they also have a decent statics site up the road. Has everything we've ever needed, other than MTB, but can get that at home.
If it's cottages, then leave it later and there will be availability, we were surprised theres cottages available for Easter weekend if you wanted them and they're in Padstow itself with pubs, food etc.
But as everyone said, there are so many spots on the north coast to choose from.

Padstow itself is a nightmare for traffic though, some kids still off 1st week in September so beware.

Not walking distance to surf (well their wave rider is) but we did Retallack last year and had a great time. Loads for the kids to do there and a pool if its wet outside plus a bar/restaurant. Close to padstow and other places of interest.

We’ve just got back from Constantine Bay and stayed at Martha’ Orchard. It’s at the top of the beach road (5-10 min walk to beach) and was perfect. We had a 6 person lodge with hot tub and I was extremely impressed. The lodge was massive and really quiet. Would thoroughly recommend. Also only a 10 min drive from Padstow.

Anywhere near Bude; Crackington Haven, Widemouth, Sandy Mouth and my favourite; Duck Pool beach (low tide is best and even a small swell has a lot of oomph).   Ask Dept 26 regarding local riding but Dartmoor is and hour away.

I suggested Redruth as a joke for my friends honeymoon... They were served, honestly, fried lettuce, as a starter.

He still complains about it, I still laugh 🙂

Redruth made me chuckle. four Lanes would have been funnier.
However my serious vote is Portreath. Surf and next to flat camel trail/ flat lode. Portreath to Deveron. A lovely flat trail with off shoots of great
technical bits. Marvellous.

Yes Redruth is a dump...but we spent a few holidays just outside Redruth, near porthtowan at a farm cottage called higher laity. Nice and central for great beaches a few mins away (portreath/porthtowan) and places to go, very peaceful and friendly so dont write that area off.

We have stayed here before:

Lovely cottage, very secluded, not close to a pub but very close to Widmouth Bay/Bude.

Been a regular visitor to Cornwall for 25 years. Stayed between Portreath / Portowan a few times. Good biking from Porthtowan along the coast to St Agnes Head including Wheal Coates mines - many mine working tracks so no issues about footpaths. Nice ride to Devoran on mine trail - shortest UK 'coast to coast'! Chapel Porth for surfing. Easy to get up to Perran / Holywell Bay too. Around Sennen and St Just is good too if you like your Cornwall a bit wilder and windier. Tend to avoid St Ives - it's just too busy. Botallack to Land's End is good for a sneaky bike ride - can be 'technical' in places - scrambling and narrow tracks with big drops

Thanks for the info everyone. We’re riding at Gawton for 2 days, B&B in Newquay for 4 nights then going to book somewhere a bit more remote for the last 3 days.
Much appreciated team!
