As the title says really, am giving SPDs another try after years of flats. I do have wide feet, as measured by a Clark’s professional no less.

Any recommendations for truly wide fitting SPDs ?

I've got feet like a gibbon and find Northwave SPD's the most comfortable for those of us with wider trotters

I've got wide feet and I really struggled to find anything. I then found a .pdf tucked away on the Shimano website showing they do in fact have wide fit shoes. Its not immediately obvious if you are just browsing websites for shoes.

I got a pair of these and they fit me really well.

Shimano wide fit are actually pretty wide - I use them for road shoes and they are nice.

Weirdly shimano don't seem to bring many (any?) wide fit shoes to the UK so you need to go to one of the european sellers that ship to UK (assuming you're in the UK of course).

Shimano XC502 in wide fit is what I have half an eye on.

I have wide feet and have Shimano shoes and Lake winter boots in wide fit.

Both good but I needed to get some Specialized Body Fit insoles with high arch support to make them comfortable on longer rides - e.g. 200km audax.

These are supposedly wide in the forefoot acording to reviews. More to the point - on sale at £32 on Chain Reaction. I have ordered a pair of 48s (in plain black).

So my DHB Troikas were delivered in 3 days. Wide enough just for my wider than average feet. Not super wide. As stated in reviews they size big. I make these 48s as being identical in size to my Shimano MO87 size 49s.

At the sale price £32 great value for money. Loose enough fit to wear with hiking socks. So these will be my cold weather shoes.

Lake for sure. I have wide feet and their standard shoes fit me well. Their leather is very supple (whilst robust) and will stretch to give you a snug fit. I prefer the BOA system to velcro as it can be micro adjusted.

I was zwifting on saturday morning in my garage with the door shut and fan off, sweat and steam pouring off me but numb and cold toes! I thought it was this thread...but found a thread on here and have picked up some Specialized Torch cycling shoes which were recommended off eBay to try due to the wide toe box.

the lakes are expensive ! I'm not splashing that much on another trial to see if I like spds.

Not as eye wateringly expensive as the custom made options above ! Holy shit they are bonkers money, am sure they are worth every penny, but wow.

The dhb's mentioned above are now £40 and could be completely hit or miss as far as I can tell, in fact they don't sound wide at all.

Maybe a flat shoe with the spd option in the sole will have to do.

Shimano AM 7 are quite wide. Maybe have to go up in size a bit as they come up small. I tend to use the “rule of thumb” meaning you need a thumbs width from end of big toe to end of shoe.
I wear Altra trainers and Vivobarefoot shoes plus Birkies and crocs because my toes are proper wide and giving them room allows better dynamic foot movement.
Forcing the big toe inwards at the joint is a real trigger for arthritis and bunions.

That Am7 is comfortable.

Some old Northwave Enduro (Cedric model) fit me pretty well too.

Have a look on Sportpursuit. I don't agree that £100-200 is expensive for niche shoes. It's one of the few contact points on a bike.

I've just bought some in a wide fit. They actually fit properly across the width, without having to go up a size.

Update on my DHB Troikas. Being big enough to wear proper thick socks inside them (Heat Holders) my feet are now proper toasty on cold days. I suppose having thick socks covering the ankles helps as well.

As to how wide they really are? When I used to buy New Balance running shoes I was a 2E. THese are just a good fit. Probably not wide enough for a 4E foot.

Warm feet for a total of about £45? Bargain.
