my feet have been really feeling the cold (I know, MTFU) so I'm after some warm waterproof socks, what's every one else wearing this winter and which ones would you recommend?

At the risk of stating the obvious... Sealskin Merino.

Sealskins are utter rubbish in proper rain though!

The water runs down your legs and then inside the sock. This means you have to stop and empty your socks out! Useless I tell thee.

I've just bought some overshoes.

As above. They are gift delivered from on high to those who desire the toastiest of extremities. I just wish they made an all in one adult romper suit for days like today. Perhaps I should write and ask?

IME Sealskins leak almost from the word go... The Gore ones last a bit longer but are unlined. If it's just waterproof yer after, the Gore Tex ones are, more, and for longer.

Edit: Sorry, one more point. Whilst Sealskins let water in, they keep you warm in a 'wetsuit effect' errr, effect though you'll likely suffer Trench Foot after extended immersion. The Gores don't do this so much when they do start to leak.

Not entirely... the overshoes have whacking great holes in the bottom so water will drain out of them. Instead they just protect you from the worst of the cold? I hope.

Haven't you got the one piece Sealskins? Do up on the top of your head to stop the rain running in.
Sealskins are great, overshoes are for roadies.

Or just get the size 437 ones and wriggle up into it from below?

DezB if only you told me that before I ordered them. Now I'm gonna look like a right plonker aren't I!!

Still, I do hate sealskins though.
