Off to the north of Finland next month and I'm thinking I'll need some snow boots, for 'apres-ski' or general mooching about, rather than for actual winter sports. Don't want to spend a fortune, but I'll probably sell them on after anyway, so price isn't a major factor.

We were up in an area called nellim a couple of years ago in the winter.
They provided boots for everyone. and they all pretty much had sorel caribou boots. Was -25 some days and they were good.

Actually I could do with some pointers here too.

not wellies. GF is hankering after some, preferably with minimal soft soles.

Meindle Solden winter boots:

Wearing mine today, did six miles around the valleys close to Biddestone. The only issue is that they could do with an insole; they have a felt inner boot with a rubber sole, but there's no insole, so I made some out of foam carpet underlay, which makes a big difference to comfort. I've found some 5mm thick wool felt insoles on eBay which I'll replace those with, felt being a bit denser.
I paid £70 for mine in a sale, but they're cheaper overall than Canadian equivalents. Pretty grippy sole, too; it was very muddy and slippery where I was walking today.

Too sensible I think.

I don't think she's after practical boots. Hmmm...the googling continues

The above options where all sensible, pragmatic, cost effective suggestions.

Got a Cotswold Outdoor near you?

They stock thinsulate lined North Face boots, and the Caribou's, amongst others.

Personally I like the North Face Chilkat, toasty warm and good for this country as well.

I've got a pair of these:

Low Nabucco GTX

And they are brilliant - use them for apres ski, but they were bought for cold testing (down to -30 or even lower) and with a good pair of socks they keep your feet proper toasty. Great grip on snow/ice as well.
