I’ve read the existing thread on walking boots, hiking boots, walking the dog threads.
off the back of one of those threads, I bought some muck boot mucksters ? I think that’s what they were. Lasted 2 years which is ok ish, but then they really fell apart and split in the sole and along the top where the neoprene is. the sole isn’t the greatest on these and not that great for long walks with the dog, but they are waterproof (not now though)
so I’m in the market for replacements.
new muckster’s are £75 or so, not paying that if I can help it just to walk the dog.
what I do want is waterproof, slip on and a decent ish sole. Oh and it’s mainly for walking the dog.
tried some other muck boot called the Apex, which at 112 in the sale were too small and frankly a bit special looking and too expensive in hindsight.
So I know it’s another what boot request, but any recommendations?

As with all slip on footwear though there is excessive heel movement and wearing compared to something with laces.

I love a bargain, but maybe you should spend on something you're going to be wearing every day - hopefully for a few years?
@cha****ng did that and bought some £112 muck boot - apex boots, they looked overpriced rubbish (and they were on sale) and I could hardly get my foot in them, so returned them, as they were already a size above what I’d normally get!
happily spend the money, well mostly happy if they’d be a bit more robust than the pair that have just fallen apart.
i have wellies, but walking in wellies isn’t that nice an experience tbh, even the “short” wellies.
Edit love those crocs, they do somehow look like a mix up of a DM boot and a croc shoe.

Cant advise which boot, but for easy slip on elastic laces for walking boots are one of the best inventions of the last 100 years if want slip on and not doing anything to technical. Takes me seconds each boot to slip them on before taking the dog out.

Waterproof tested up to standing in a stream past my ankles until i can't be bothered anymore.
Walk all day long. Make you look like a bit of a everydaycarry type weirdo.
The laces are a bit of a pain in the hoop. But i just leave them tied and hook them all up for day to day.

That's fair, I just use a lighter weight pair of Berghaus walking boots and tolerate the faff of doing the laces up before each dog walk.
They're great for going hiking as well, obvs.

I looked at this sort of thing and came to the conclusion that walking any distance in something slip on (my wellies are more jam in than slip on) wouldn't be comfortable. Walking boots/approach shoes for me if it's not welly weather.
I like my Decathlon ones. I think they are part of the Huntin' Shootin' range so nice for walking in, not stiff enough for Gardenin'and Diggin'
For wet grass, I've not found anything that can match wellies. No amount of waterproof ability can cope with that amount of water - expensive walking boots through to trail runners etc. They might work initially but they eventually fail. Wellies just work really well in that situation. Wet grass is a real test of waterproof ability
For dog walking I used to jump between Bogs wellies for the thick of winter, to walking boots for spring/autumn, and trainers for summer. Wellies and walking boots got retired eventually and I bought a pair of these. If you can get over the fact they're Hunters, and the price (I paid about £70 for them 3-4 years ago) then they're pretty decent. Very waterproof, comfortable enough to wear on 3-5 mile walks, don't get too sweaty when the weather warms up. I wear them almost all year round now, just use trainers when it's warm and dry.
For winter I use Grubs neoprene lined ones, but for the rest of the year I have these Aigle short wellies. Used for dogs walks for a good few years now and still going strong.

My boots are fine on wet grass. And will last longer than any welly has ever lasted me.
Proper waterproof leather boots are great.
Every so often i am twmpted by a pair of these bad boys.
