I work from home and mostly just wander around in socks or maybe slippers if it's cold 😱

But I quite often need to pop outside to get something from the car, outside storage, etc.
So I'm after something, preferably warm, I can slip my feet into quickly (no laces) that don't mind the wet - any suggestions?

[and I don't want Crocs]

The "don't mind the wet" bit is what I'm struggling with, not sure you'll find waterproof, warm slip-ons.

So just buy some Crocs, I know you don't want them but I use them for exactly what you describe and they're perfect.

You can get fur-lined Crocs I think ...

Resistance is futile.  Crocs are the perfect solution.  I have a pair of "all-terrain" crocs which are a lot more grippy on slick or slippery surfaces.  Still great inside, but better outside.

Knock-off Crocs then, Lidl and other places do lined ones for under a tenner.

If you're just 'popping outside', you don't really need to worry about warm, cos you won't be out there long enough for your feet to get that cold/wet.

I have a pair of something like this (not these, this is just a pic of something similar) by each door for just this purpose:

image.png

They cost me about a tenner from a French supermarket, I'm sure you'll find similar here for about the same price

Knock off Crocs or some cheap Carnac sliders from Banana Industries (they seam to have bought what's left of PX stock).

Iso Baa slippers ,the ones with a sole. << indoors and trips to the world of shed (not waterproof)

Keen Howser . Fine for around the house/shed and a bit of outdoors. << they are super comfi, but be aware that if you go further afield, people will point and laugh..they look like you are wearing pasties.

Crocs remain the single most hideous invention of humanity aside the neutron bomb.

Save your dignity and buy any trainer or approach shoe TXMaxx have in stock, in 1/2 size bigger than you're used to. Tie the laces really loosely in a reef knot then trim the ends, or replace them with elastic.

Don't get the mixed messages - sounds like you want inside shoes that you can wander in the garden with. Answer is Crocs (and a pair of slippers for indoors).

This but...

Dammit! 😫

How have you been surviving so far?

Something along these lines:

any trainer or approach shoe TXMaxx have in stock

but it's not ideal.

Keen Howser . Fine for around the house/shed and a bit of outdoors.

ooh.... this might be the answer!! 👏

Aye, that's what I do. I keep an old pair of loosely perma-tied Etnies that I can slip on and kick off easily in the hallway for when I need to go outside, then and some rubber soled memory foam slippers for in the house (they're fine outside too, but I don't want to dirty the soles).

The Keen Howsers look good though, and there's also splash proof LongBay Outdoor Slippers on Amazon at half the cost (although it will be one of those things where you get what you pay for).

TEVA Terrain Slippers - some on Sportpursuit for £39 if they have your size.  I have some and like.  I also have the older TEVA ember moc slip ons (which have a closer fit) but think they're discontinued.  Fit the brief.

Birkenstock Boston? They are silly money now but do last a long time.

I’ve also got some Keen Targee Slides that are the only pair of Keen shoes that haven’t actually fallen apart - leather upper with chunky sole are pretty durable but the fabric at the back has now worn through after a few years

If I can just pitch in - I have similar needs, loose slip ons are sub optimal as they slide off when going up the stairs.  They have to be loose enough to slip on without faff, but survive a jaunty run up the stairs.

the self lacing sneakers from Back to the Future 2 should really have been invented by now.  We were sold a lie

A little bit spendy - £90, though they often have sales - but I have these for similar reasons to those you describe:
https://shop.tropicfeel.com/products/sunset-baltic-navy
They slip on and off, and they are pretty secure when they are on. The back folds down so it can they can be used as slipper (about 90% of my use), but they're great when I need to empty the bin, let the dogs out, or pop to the local shop.
I find them so useful I never go anywhere without them. They're great on flights, if I'm a passenger on a long car journey I can kick them off. I used to keep a pair at work for when my shoes got wet on the commute.
Highly recommended - I'm on my third pair.

Edit - they don't look like a pair of pasties. Nice looking enough for general use.

Maybe Sketchers slip ons if you aren't man enough for Crocs.

These guys https://www.backdoorshoes.co.uk/ were at our town market the other week. Was tempted as I need something for when I let out or lock up my hens. I'm currently using a very old pair of Merrell walking shoes, but they are disintegrating.

Sliders were the best thing I ever bought. Warm out? no socks.. cold out? with socks. I'm wearing them now, cos I keep nipping out to the garage. (Puma ones are £12 on Sportsdirect). All this, oh no you have no style! You look silly! Literally: No One Cares. Well, my neighbours certainly don't. I don't wear them to the shops, but mainly cos I can't walk in them, unlike the roadmen of this world, I would otherwise 😀

ps. if you're utterly stupid you can pay like £40 for ones with poncier logos. but they are made exactly the same.

House slippers- five ten slip ons. I got fed up of my slippers wearing out and have just gone for actual shoes. I can't find any more of these as five ten stopped making them so when these eventually wear out I'll be moving onto slip on vans.

Shed shoes- lurid yellow furry crocs. Perfect for the use you describe. Just ugly. The yellow ones were vastly cheaper than any other colour in a sale. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it 😀

Exactly.  I can't tell you how liberating it is though, to give zero f****s what some randoms think of your indoor footwear choices.  If it does worry you, you could always add some of these to show how you're only wearing them in an ironic and totally cool way. image.png

could this fit the bill?

Here to second @ThePinkster and the suggestion of step in Sketchers. "Just try some on", my wife suggested/instructed. So I did, and was immediately converted. Perfect for popping out to the shops or into the garage. Worth checking the sole though. Mine have the same material for the outsole as the mid, and so have worn quicker than I'd like. Two years in though and I haven't ruined the heel cup on these unlike a few other pairs of trainers that I lace loosely and shove my feet into.

I bought some shoes for a very similar purpose. When sliders aren't warm/protective enough, but not crocs. I literally use these multiples times a day to pop into the garage/workshop/office/mancave. Still look odd so only wear them for that purpose, putting the bins out and when camping for popping out of the tent/van. As easy to slip on as sliders which is the key for me. (I agree that crocs are the answer on paper, just not in practise)

Absolutely this.  My first pair are well

worn now after several years.  Fortunately I had the foresight to buy a second pair at the bargain price they were at the time and they wait patiently for the time they’re needed.

What’s the alternative? Vans slip ons (though not as robust).

I am most dissapointed. I cannot possibly see how Crocs (yuk) meet the OPs requirements of warm, insulated, water resistant/proof and slip on.

The answer is rigger boots.

Seriously, how has no one suggested this? Dont you all have them?

image.png

Mine live by the door. They are warm and fuzzy inside. They are easy to slip on and off with no effort (which is the whole point of rigger boots), they are totally weather proof, they last for decades....

When you need to run out to the garage, or catch the postman, or shovel the snow off the step, or take the bins out - Rigger Boots.

Buy a pair. Leave them by the door.

Crocs 100%.

We got given some thick sole crocs with glitzy giblets attached to them. They are truly hideous, I mean on a totally different level to how hideous you might think a standard pair of crocs are. They deserve to float around the ocean for the rest of eternity however we can't bring ourselves to part with them because they're so practical for bin duties etc!

I've only been busted putting the bins out in them once and every time I take the bins out I prey noone is walking past but nothing gets past they're literally perfect for the job.

They have the added bonus that me and shesnotamused die laughing when the other puts them on, even after several years of daily use

Edit: those rigger boots sound good to be fair. Do you want my crocs?

I agree but I also can't deny that they are brilliant. I have some for canoeing, perfect. But when I see people wearing them out and about I always judge them as having given up on life. Same for sliders, which yoof now seem happy to wear with white socks.

Bare foot shoes. A friend of mine bought some when she was working at the Hostel at Tal-y-Bont, which she wore around the hostel, and also out walking. I looked on Amazon, ‘cos I needed some light shoes for around the house and garden, and found some for around £14; I more or less live in them, but I don’t wear them if I’m out walking, the sole isn’t quite thick enough for that.
They’d be ideal for wearing on a plane and going through security.

Yes, they have laces, but they’re elastic, and are for adjusting them but they just slip on.

Update: I have made a purchase and went for some Crocs. 🤦‍♂️

Really? No ****ing way - I bought some Keen Howsers and they are lovely.  They slip on easily yet feel good walking around, are nice and warm but are fine outside .... and yes I've done the obligatory bin run in them whilst it was raining 👍

They may look a little odd but I don't look like even more of a ****er than normal wearing them which would not have been the case if I was wearing Crocs 😉

Thanks for all the suggestions..... it seems I may also need some rigger boots in a couple of months! 🙄
