I need to urgently replace a flat roof to an outside(what other type??) building, happy with the mechanics of doing it but just need to know which products people have which have surpassed expectations.

Thanks in anticipation...

Neil

You should be able to get some single ply mineral felt from any local builders merchants, or DIY store if you want to pay more for worse materials. Then either fix it using tacks or cold pour bitumen. Remember to start at the bottom 🙂

Thanks Palmer, I guess my question is are all felts and glues the same or are some to be avoided or recommended?

what about fibreglass instead of felt? the last few flat roofs my brother has done he got a fibreglass kit. would think it should outlast felt

Unfortuantely I have to join to an existing flat roof not belonging to me, I understand that the rubber or fibreglass is not great for joining??

I wouldn't use felt any more.

Mine & my neighbours garages shared the same flat (felt) roof.

I planned to replace the whole thing with a single EPDM sheet eventually (it wasn't leaking on his side) but he couldn't wait, so paid some firm £2k to do his first.

They used an 8" wide super tacky strip to glue it to my felt, It sealed with no issues at all. They just swept it clean first & made sure it was 100% dry.

I did mine about a year later, the bits cost me about £170. The basic roof underneath was sound so I screwed 8x4 sheets of OSB straight on top the existing felt, after locating the joists. The EPDM then goes on top, after priming with a glue. For the join I used their vulcanising glue to glue to overlap join mine to it to his. Had to use a special primer first. It was akin to fixing a giant puncture. The edge is just folded over & capped with a special trim & nails. It's a days work.

I bought all the kit from these folks...

They were really helpful, talked me through the whole process but they have all the videos on their site.
