My in ear Shure SE215's have just given up the ghost after a few years of fantastic service. I'm now looking to replace the £15 Mpow wireless in ears I got as a stop gap with something of good quality.

Happy to go for on ear as well as in ear and I tend to listen to a lot of podcasts and watch stuff on my iPad while working away so noise cancelling/reduction and comfort is nearly as important as sound quality.

Unfortunately I don't have hundreds to throw at them - otherwise I'd have bought a set of quiet comforts by now - I have around the £100 to spend.

What do you use?

AKG451 you can get them for £45 but the reviews they get put them on a par with £100 headphones

I use these

They block all the inane conversations I'm subjected to on the train and the bass is pretty strong.

Funnily enough I was just looking at AKG - the AKG Y50BT.

Do you own the 451's?

Go to TK Maxx and buy a few different pairs of earphones, try the iLuv brand, the SkullCandy ones and any others that look good.

You'll pay about £5 per pair and when you find ones that suit, buy a couple more.

...or be as STW as you can and spend £100 on a pair that might be ok...

I have a pair of £15 headphones in now. If I had wanted cheap headphones I would stick with these. Thanks though!

You are equating high price with quality, which is very STW...

Try it, you might be surprised.

my wife has a set of goldring noise cancelling headphones and the noise cancelling-ness of them is probably 90% as good as my qcs at 30% of the cost

thanks 5lab, helpful info. The best of what I have tried on in the past couple of weeks has been the QC 35's they are amazing. Up there with the Skull Candy's Crikey recommended 😀

Has anyone got Bowers & Wlikin P3 or P5's?

AGK451, we have two pairs at home and they are great. Son is loving his Jabra Bluetooth ones at the moment, about £80 from Amazon.

I've had b&w p3's and the sound quality was excellent but they were prone to movement on my head/ears as the pads were so soft/slippery and there was zero noise isolation, for on ears I use my trusty Sennheiser Amperiors which are pretty much the HD-25 that are used for DJ/studio monitoring but with aluminium ear cups and they offer really good isolation.

For in-ears I use RHA T20i, they get on average 6hrs use a day when at work and give excellent isolation which I'm so thankful for as the girls at work blast out R1, RHA have a very good 3yr no quibble warranty and the cheaper models in the range are also highly regarded, check out the reviews.

Sennheiser HD25 all day long.

Incredible, crystal clear sound, good isolation as they're pro headphones, and bulletproof. Even if anything breaks, you can get every single bit on its own as they're modular.

Does anyone know the difference between the AKG 451 and the AKG y50?

I've got a pair of the 451s.. They are OK.
I bought them on an Amazon flash deal and use them as a mobile pair.. I prefer over ears though. I also have a pair of Takstar Pro80 which for about £30 punch about 4x above their price suggests.

I use these at home and travelling. £50-60 and excellent sound quality for music and calls. Also, once I got the right ear bud size (many provided) they're super comfy. Noise isolation is good, not as good as my Bose obviously, but very good overall.

I am rather happy with the B&O H2 headphones which i picked up for £80 on amazon. They sound super fantastic, are comfy for on ear headphones and generally feel like a classy piece of kit, nice soft leather ear cushions etc.

Something which is a bit of a downside is they don't fold or come with a carry case.

Go to TK Maxx and buy a few different pairs of earphones, try the iLuv brand, the SkullCandy ones and any others that look good.

You'll pay about £5 per pair and when you find ones that suit, buy a couple more.

I've actually done this, some of the Skullcandy ones sound ok but nowhere near as good as something like the B&O.

SkullCandy

Fine if you like massive bass and everthing else sounding like your ears are full of mud.

I'm another Sennheiser user, got two pairs, one for running (OCX 685i), which are very bright sounding and loud at the expense of a little quality and some cx880's which are quieter, but give really, really good detail on the sound, and if you've got them hooked up to an amp powerful enough to properly drive them are really good.

Both pairs have been hammered for years and years, and both still work well. Although the CX880's are almost worn out now, which is a shame, but at 7 years of use, including being sent for a swim in a cup of tea, I'm not complaining!

I've just got some Sony Zx770bn headphones (£90 from Amazon) and they seem pretty good.

Thy have active noise cancelling and can be used via Bluetooth or wired connection.

They are pretty comfy as well.

Sennheisers are generally pretty reliably good sounding - apart from one set I bought but I think that was an anomaly.

Sony might do some good ones but they have produced so many duff sounding headphones that I wouldn't trust them unless I heard them.

Funnily enough I was just looking at AKG - the AKG Y50BT.

Recently bought a set of these myself, I have found they are not great unless the bluetooth broadcaster is in line of sight, so phone in left pocket trouser pocket) receiver is in the right headphone, signal drops out when walking, fine if you move the phone to the other pocket.

The large ear-cups move a bit when walking and you can hear this which is a pain if you walk anywhere with them on.

Also, when wearing glasses they press the ear into the arms of the glasses which gets a bit un-comfortable.

Overall volume doesn't go that high, but you can hear them fine in most situations.

I have gone back to my Sennheiser PX 200-II for now.

Had some SE215 for just over a year. Replaced cable once, £45-ish, now needs another replacement. I tend to baby my gear as well.

Kind of relieved when they gave up ghost as they are absolutely terrible for my taste in music (metal, rock, techno etc), prolly ok for classical, jazz maybe, good for speech though.

I replaced mine with a UE 900 cable, bit more robust than the Shure one, has remote and microphone for phone use and a bit cheaper.

Strangely the cable on my se535 is still going strong.

Shows how subjective it is listening to them though, I listen to a bit of metal / industrial and can't decide if I prefer the 215s to my 535s, really like both though.

Sennheiser px100. On ear, comfortable, good sound, foldable and come with 2 year warranty. Around £40. Had several pairs as the cable goes just before 2 years but I have had about 5 pairs over 10 year all free

I have a pair of Sennheiser Momentum.

£105 on Amazon

Sound good and are very comfortable, I use them on long haul flights and can happily wear them for 10 hours at a time.

I've got a pair of these and rate them higher than the similar priced Sennheisers that I had previously:
