Thankyouverymuch!
world war z
The Road
The Wool Trilogy (link to all three books):
or The Passage Trilogy (link to first book)
I was gripped by both, so would definitely recommend them.
On my Kindle:
Yesterday's Gone: Season One ...
Z2135
Apocalypse Z

Re The Wool, I've tried getting into it a few times but it's just not happening. Dunno why. So many excellent reviews, but maybe not my bag.
The Day of the Triffids
Not exactly zombies, but sort of.
Love World War Z (films ok, books so much better)
Got Wool to try myself.
can you get Y the Last Man?
not zombies, just lots and lots of women!
Earth Abides - no Zombies - but great story - not sure if on Kindle though
World War Z is great. I also really enjoyed The Postman (post-apoc/survivalist rather than zombies & don't let the film put you off!)
Ohhh "I am legend" by Richard Matheson, again don't be put off by the (rubbish) film, the books ace
Again, not zombies, but J G Ballard wrote some wonderfully dystopian stuff.
The Drought, The Drowned World, High Rise and Concrete Island are well worth a read. He takes fairly simple ideas and extrapolates them very convincingly and unnervingly.
EDIT – since your killing time on an aeroplane you should also pop a copy of the Langoliers by Stephen King on your kindle.
^^ I've just finished the Drought by JG Ballard. Bit surreal at times, but a good read nonetheless. He paints the characters very well, and you really get a feel for the environment they are living in. I'll be checking out some more of his books.
Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban.

The Road, but I reckon you don't want to read it in one go - it benefits from taking a while to let it percolate.
Another vote for I am legend. The film is a disgrace compared to the book.
The Passage by Justin Cronin. Loved it!
Both Outpost & Terminus By Adam Baker a good read.
Wool hard going for the first few chapters but once I got into it I couldn't put it down.
Afterlight - Alex Scarrow - V Good - I have read several of his novels of which I can remember the titles.
One Second After -Forstche - Good (very American - moments of cheesiness)
Its a genre I enjoy reading, although there is some dross about!
Pete
Just finishing Swan Song by Robert Mccammon, bloody fantastic it is. No zombies but very, very good.
Can also second the Wool books, think I'm up to book 6 now and enjoyed the lot.
'Day of the triffids'
'The death of grass'
'Alas, Babylon'
'Long voyage back'
The above is basically a hit list of awesome end of the world books.
'Lucifer's Hammer' is also very good, if not quite in the same litery league.
Flood & Ark
Stephen Baxter
The Stand - especially if you can get the full length version.
'Feed' trilogy by Mira Grant, it is a trilogy, one of the others is called 'Deadline'
+1 for World War Z and I am Legend
Read both a couple of years ago, and both have stayed with me.... particularly "I am Legend" - strangely relevant when moving to Australia for work 😯
sharkattack - have you read their other famous one? The mote in gods eye - also excellent, so starts a bit slowly.

I haven't. I just remember being loaned this one from a mate and really enjoying it. Really slow build up, you're not even sure if the comet is going to hit then BLAM!
Wouldn't mind reading it again and also tracking down their other efforts.
Not a book but look up Stake land and the other films by the duo. Their latest is going to their biggest
World war Z is utterly excellent. I also enjoy Mira Grants stuff, the latest series that she's writing is really good. Her writing feels aimed at teens but the stories are great.
world war Z is truly amazing as an audiobook. the film is rubbish in comparison (they are differnt stories incase you think the film will have spoiled the book)
Brave new world.
The stand by Stephen king. I found it gripping
