- To be used with a phone (So crazy audiophile quality not required)
- And not from Currys/PC World
- Not fussed on branding

I rate these very highly:
https://taotronics-eu.com/en/collections/kopfhorer/products/tt-bh090-soundsurge-air-bluetooth-kopfhorer
Apparently Amazon no longer sell them because of alleged fake reviews, which is a bit odd because they’re really very good and don’t need bogus reviews to sell them.
I bought a pair, along with Anker’s equivalent, which were getting lots of good reviews, and I sent the Anker ‘phones back, I really didn’t like the sound balance at all.
The Taotronics aren’t overwhelmingly bassy like the Anker ‘phones, which reminded me of old-skool Beats Solos, they’re comfy for extended periods, the ANC works pretty well, and battery life isn’t bad. One advantage they have over some very expensive ’phones is that they can be used passively with a cable, unlike the Apple ‘phones and the B&W ‘phones, plus you can get cheap cables with a 3.5mm jack on one end, and an Apple Lightning plug on the other, and they work perfectly, I think you can get 3.5mm to USB-C cables to work with other makes of phone. This makes a big difference, because having the battery go flat unexpectedly and then find they’re useless even with a cable is bloody daft, and I certainly wouldn’t spent upwards of £300 for headphones that will take a cable, but won’t work with one if the battery is flat!
For around fifty squids, I think they’re outstanding.

Anker Soundcore Life Q20 have been used for countless hours of working from home with an overly chatty wife.

They have been faultless.

Anker Soundcore Life Q20

+1

And the upgraded 'new' model is on Amazon for £55, getting even better reviews.

I'd vote for the Taotronics ones. I bought some about a year ago and they are great. As stated above being able to use them wired is a useful backup. The noise cancelling is good and overall sound quality great. I use them loads while wfh and also for mowing the lawn etc.

+1 for the Taotronics. Very reasonable, decent quality, passable noise cancelling and have used for 2 years plus.
