You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm after a camera that can fit in a pouch on my camelbak or in the pocket of a pair of jeans. I have no idea about compacts as I've shot with SLR's for the last 7 years.
It needs to be reasonably tough, have a decent zoom, shoot half decent images in lowish light and not too much shutter lag.
You could do worse that one of these: http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/LUMIX+Digital+Cameras/Superzoom+Cameras/DMC-SZ1/Overview/8534657/index.html

And I'm very pleased with it, I've taken a lot of photos with it recently, and the only thing it falls a bit short on is the follow-focus finding it difficult to keep up with a person moving quickly in awkward lighting conditions, like on stage.
Still got a lot of photos, though.
It's a bit bulkier, but it fits into a Timbuktoo cellphone pouch with room for a spare battery and several spare memory cards.
Not that you ought to need those; a 32Gb SDHC card can be had for around £20-30, and it'll take SDXC cards, although a 64Gb one will set you back about £170, at the mo'.
