Currently got a decent growth coming on and it gets quite out of control. I've tried a couple of moisturisers - No7 and something else that I can't remember, but they don't seem to work that well

What you beardies using?

I avoid oil and use balm as there’s no real control with oil. Honest Amish, Gentleman’s Face Care Club or Mariner Jack are the best ones I’ve used over the years. Currently have a very short beard though due to lockdown meaning I was trimming it and royally ****ed it up 😕 finding a good beard barber is key to a luxurious long beard imo

Hence the above . Mines manageable with balm but if I try to self trim it'll all be off and I'll look 12 again

Second beard balm way nicer. And a nice wee brush to brush it in.

It starts before the balm though. Soak it comb out the loose one. wash it, i use a nail brush to scrub beard and skin make sure its really really rinsed.

No idea of length of my beard but think a nest fabricated from 0 gauge wirewool.

Beard oil is an absolute scam. Instead I've started using just jojoba oil every now and then. It helps keep beard looking healthy plus skin underneath doesn't go dry. If I want better control of the beard then as others have said, balm is best.

Do you have any allergies?
What I use is probably only due to what I can find without stuff I'm allergic to in one way or another.

I guess I missed this...what does beard oil do?

Bearded for 15 years and don't think I'm missing anything...?

I use oil and balm as find I my skin gets dry, sore itchy without using oil twice a day. Balm on its own doesn’t seem to moisturise, but does help in not looking like I’ve got pubes stuck to my cheeks. Arthur J Hawke oils and balms seem ok and are well priced with discount codes he posts on FB.

I don't think I suffer any skin issues - I've not been clean shaven for 20+ years. It's just the bit's that stick out I want to control, now it's a bit longer

Peak STW here!

My beard does get scratchy/itchy if I don't use anything for a long time.

I use Brian Blessed Mountaineer Beard Oil, because I thought it was a funny concept 🙂

You need a boar hair brush as well obvs

Boar hair brush and a Kent comb are necessities. I’ve been bearded for most of my adult life and pretty much always used a balm. Just a small amount goes a long way and helps keep the face fuzz tame, moisturisers the skin underneath and helps prevent split ends. Basically stops your beard looking like shit. You just need to try different ones for a few weeks until you find one that works.

I can second the body shop beard oil. I've used it for a while now. My other half is also a bodyshop at home rep so if you want any I could maybe get some money off for you 😉 sorry for the stealth ad there btw
