You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So the old ball & chain wants ideas for a xmas present from the boy, budget is £20 max
Now there isnt much i need as i just buy most things as and when i want/need them
But i could do with a head torch for when working in the garage to make seeing things easier when i have to use both hands so cant hold a normal torch
I would prefer one with the following features
Rechargeable, simple one strap head band, mutiple led's rather than just one so it has a nice wide beam of light
So what can you recommendd for £20?
I'd opt for a Sofirn HS10 as it fulfils all of your criteria apart from multiple LEDs, but the optic gives a decent spread nonetheless. I use one as my general day to day light and as a caving backup and I've been impressed so far. aliexpress ftw
Another recommendation for Sofirn.
I paid about £30 for a dual one which is excellent.
Petzl Tikka. There's one on Amazon for less that twenty quid. It isn't rechargeable per se , but you can source one of their Core rechargeable batteries yourself.
There are a lot of chinesium headtorches out there that are bulky, ergonomically awkward and whatever, but the Petzl is slim and simple. It also has variable brightness levels. You don't need huge banks of LEDs , you just want one that shines where you need it to.
Nebo micro. Currently £16 quid from Screwfix
Have alpkit head torches improved? Because they used to be really crap for leaking.
Alpkit torches were garbage back in the day.
They seemed good value for money regards performance. I bought one then recommended them to my workplace, ended up with 3 dead ones.

There was a design problem with one of the very early models, which is long since discontinued.
I have loads of Alpkit Headtorches, all excellent.
I had 2 of the Screwfix NEBO.
Both returned.
The batteries don't last a year.
Changed tack and bought:

Takes AA batteries, which seem to last ages. Bonus is, you can tell when the batteries are dying, then you have the chance to fit new ones, whereas the rechargable in the NEBO just went out.
Had it a couple of years now.
Recommended.
I have a big overhead light in my workshop/garage. Am I missing something?
Presumably should your username give any indication, you don't need the added light of a headtorch.

Must pretty great overhead light if it doesn't cast shaddows/blaze through engine blocks/and generally bend round things to light up exactly where you need.
