You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all,
15 y-o is not good at remembering to tell us where he is or where he's going, and so he's agreed that a tracker would be helpful, so we know. The thinking is that it might also help him to remember to tell us, if he knows we could find out anyway. Importantly, this is not because he's "up to no good", simply a peace of mind thing.
So, I'd like recommendations for a basic locator that will allow his mum and me (android) to see where he (iPhone) is at any point.
I've looked at reviews, and we don't need things like geofencing, or any alerts, just a simple location.
Anyone use/used one? Thoughts?
Appreciate lots of folks will say it's a bad idea, so I guess constructive reasons not to would be helpful too, it's very likely I haven't thought of some drawbacks.
Thanks
Google maps is free easy and simple. Works on Android and Apple. We use it for our 11yr old and grand parents! Works everywhere there is a phone signal including abroad.
Just use the “Find My” app on Apple devices. Set up a family and it will show where all the members are if you enable location sharing from each device.
You can access the Apple 'find my phone' thing on a non-apple device through a web browser. Not sure if there's a neater app-based way of doing it.
Doesn't Whatsapp have a location/gps setting?
Life360 is a cross platform solution
Google maps works well, you just have to share your location with someone and they can see where you are at any time. Me and the OH have it set up on each other phones. For me, it was partly so she could see where I am when mtb-ing solo. As mentioned above, as long as there is mobile coverage it works really well.
The parent child relationship really is a dystopian nightmare these days eh? 😆
How's the boy expected to tan a bottle of strongbow in peace? 😆
Get with the program grandad. Kids these days are surprisingly sober. The tracking app is more use for mum and dad to know how much time they have time to sink a few before the young-un gets home
Google Maps location share is good.
Does require mobile reception, data and battery but it's a start.
Thump has his turned on for safety when biking (like Xmas Day when he took a header into a ditch in the middle of the Ochils. He'd have drowned before I got there but it was the thought that counts).
Me and the wife are on Android, both kids on iPhone, we use Life 360, easy to use, free peace of mind.
Why don’t you ask him what app he’s using to track your movements, so he can get his mates out of the house before you get home, and use that? 😉
Life 360 sells user’s location data, in case that’s an important consideration to you.
