for a special 4-day midweek break. Just me and the Mrs. Something nice.

If we go Lakes then I'm thinking central-ish for some good biking, hiking and bad-weather alternatives.

Where have you stayed that you'd say was wonderful??

Also thinking of Wales - but not sure if there's as much as in the Lakes to keep us entertained. Bikes up Cadair Idris and Snowdon would be fun though...

Windermere is a good location.

Cedar manor is a gorgeous place with great hosts, perfect for a couples get away.

Or if you want something a bit more designer/sexy try the cranleigh (especially the church suites) although not to everyone's tastes!

Old England is a proper old school hotel with great pool and gym.

How special /budget? The Samling too much? Never stayed there but it's supposed to be great. We b and b'd recently at Moss Grove, grasmere, which was very nice, if budget is a factor.

The Brimstone Hotel looks the business....

Food at the Samling looks better...

Yeah, pushing the budget out a little for this trip. We've stayed at the lovely Howe Keld in Keswick before and I'd go back there if the budget needed to be a bit more modest!
