Ok… who can recommend a nice spa / hotel this time in (probably) southern England? Mrs.G and I are looking for a weeks escape probably mid summer.. some place with as I said spa treatments, maybe tennis and some nice country walks… AND… good food so we can make sure all those expensive spa treatments go to waste ( waist ? )

Just fyi we’ve been to a couple of the Champney’s resorts and they are fine on the health farm / spa / fitness end but all that bulgar wheat and quinoa at dinner time really gets to you.

Thanks,

My wife and I treated ourselves to a weekend here last year.

A beautiful hotel in a nice setting. I would recommend NOT taking a room in the barn as they aren't very good (odd size, over two and three floors) but in the main hotel they are really nice (we asked to be moved after seeing our original room).

The food is good and the service sensible - friendly and relaxed yet very professional. Lots of space to chill out and have a drink.

The rooms all(?) have great big huge walk in showers and they do DVD free rental so you can have an afternoon in watching something on the telly and get room service - all very indulgent.

Also has plenty of walking nearby, has a nice spa (but not the best I have been in) and a great village pub serving real beer and good homecooked food (but you will need to book in advance).

thanks M_F... one question tho... "the rooms all have huge walk in showers" sounds great but do they have tubs as well ?

my rubber ducky really likes to travel ( our house here just has a tiny bath so we always look for places with nice big bathtubs )

and yes I do like the idea of the nearby pub as well.

Carey's Manor, New Forest.

Which is the hotel whose Spa I commented (but not the best I have been in) related to. It is a fantastic Spa no doubt, but the hotel isn't as good as Cowley Manor (IMO). (My brother-in-law was the restaurant manager there for a few years).

I honestly can't remember if all the rooms at Cowley Manor had baths, but ours definitely did. It was huge 🙂
