for making bags. i need to teach myself how to work it. should i get a cheapo to learn on and then get something more industrial later?
Cheap machines are almost exclusively made of plastic. It won't stand a chance versus bag fabrics and multiple stitching.
If you are sure you want to make your own bags in numbers then invest in heavy duty, hat making machine.
If you are only testing waters and your own ability to make things buy yourself 30 years old Singer or any other machine like that. It will withstand beating and won't cost you arm and leg...
Friend of mine is making bags himself in small series and using heavy duty, household machine from the 80". Much better than modern inventions...
Cheers!
I.
My missus go a sewing machine a while back that needed to be heavy duty, to be honest she just went to a suppliers and got advice there.
She ended up with a Husqvarna Viking, not cheap.
My understanding is that you want one with a walking foot, rather than just relying on feed dogs, when you are working with heavier fabrics.
But I am very new to sewing (as discussed in this weeks other sewing machine thread!)
This YouTuber is a mountain biker who makes bags professionally and for his own use. His advice is probably worth following!
