My Sense Mantra's have about had it for running. They take a pounding from my portly but authoritative frame so I am in the market for a replacement.

Unfortunately they seem to have discontinued the Mantra so does anyone have any solid recommendations for an alternative.

I do like the road/trail hybrid type shoes - pure road shoes are a bit lightweight for me at the moment. The Salomon Sense Ride 2 look fairly close to the Mantra however I am not averse to swapping brands.

Budget up to £100.

Using brooks cascadia 14’s at the moment. More road than trail for the last few months and have been coping ok.

Thanks, they look like they could be ideal. How do you find the sizing. Running shoes I am usually a 10 but the Salomon are slightly on the small side so I am a UK 11.

I like Asics FujiAttack. They have a bit of cushioning, comfy for harder trails or a bit of road.

I'm onto my second pair of Inov8 Parkclaws. They're a good mixed surface shoe, the soles seem to be amazingly hard wearing whilst being super grippy on offroad tracks.

Thanks all - have gone for a pair of Brooks PureGrit 7's. Look to be slightly more tarmac than trail over the Cascadia so will see what I think to the fit and feel.

Next up some new cycling shoes however they will have to weight a couple months.

Nike Pegasus Trail, fine on the road and beefy enough for off road work too. Cracking shoes.

What Lunge said. probably the best general shoe ever (if they fit you as they are a bit narrow)

**interesting story***

I worked in a running shop in the 80's whilst at Uni. I was pretty fit so perfect weekend and holiday job. Benson Masya used to come in as his agent was based nearby and other than training he was bored all day. One evening after work we went for a run and I picked a pair of Pegasus of the shelf (discounted, another perk) and we ran 10 miles together and they were like slippers. He went on the run 58 mins for a HM and was world champ. I didnt....

Hmm - might have to buy a pair of Pegasus also and return whichever I don't like. They do look a nice shoe...
