My old Epson Stylus has finally given it up.

Need a new printer/scanner. Nothing fancy. Running it off a Lenovo thinkpad Windows 7 64 bit...

Recommendations?

Usual STW fashion, I've got an Epson WF-2750. It's great and I use ink from Amazon (Officeworld) which are cheap as chips.

Wireless or some sort of mega expensive cable?

I have a HP Office Jet 3835 simple and does the job for occasional printing

Me too. Picked it in a sale at Argos for £15. It was cheaper than buying ink cartridges for my previous printer.

Had a Canon TS6050 for about three months now. Wireless was a bit fiddly initially but it's compact, efficient, takes A4 in the cassette and photo paper in the top. Lots of useful defaults in printer preferences (draft, duplex, high quality etc). Ink usage seems good even with the 'demo' tanks they provide and I've just bought a full set of originals (XL sized however big that is nut allegedly twice the volume) for £55 which seems reasonable for original ink. Prints straight from i-devices too but with limited control/options but that keeps Mrs happy.

It has scanner / copier functions which seem simple and intuitive but I will rarely use.

Note a new model TS6150 came out a couple of months back but you might pick up the older model for peanuts. Also available in white, black and grey. I paid £80 but £75 now for the white one at ebuyer.

If you just need something basic the I have the Epson XP-342. Its a colour inkjet printer that will do scanning too and has wifi built in. If you shop around you can get for ~£35.

HP Envy at PC World - £45 down from £120, with 9 months free ink (and no commitment to continue subscription) in box worth £72.... So they are paying you to have printer and use it for 9 months. I nearly bought three....

I was about to ask the same thing. I seem to only print infrequently and last couple of inkjets I've had have always had the ink cartridges dry up between prints. Bearing this in mind Is it still best to go for a laser jet? I guess a basic mono laser would do me.

get a cheap laser printer, got one from argos for about 100 quid printed loads, quality is great, hardly uses any toner and more importantly still works..

no more ink/bubble whatever jets for me!

The Epsons are happy to use other inks,so replacement cartridges are cheap.I have an XP322,and use 999inks cartridges very happily.

The HP instant ink service works well for me. 2 quid a month for 50 pages, rolls over if you don't use it and the odd heavy month isn't crippling. Cartridges they supply are huge, but don't dry out.

Even better if you can get a few months free!

When I asked recently several recommended the brother H1110 b+w laser. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-HL-1110-Mono-Laser-Printer/dp/B00EKF2D24

Only had it a week but fast and no complaints so  ordered 4 extra toners at £18? the lot off ebay.they were recommended too as working well and should be good for 1000's of pages.

I've got a Brother mono laser also - wireless thingy, cost about £50.

Don't print that much and just works.  My old Epson inkjet was forever clogging and the clean cycle used to drink ink like it had the thirst of a camel.
