We have about £700 for a new tower.
He wants to be able to play some newer games at high settings.

Can you Gaming types give me a clue what I should be looking for?

Thanks, guys.

There was a recent thread with similar needs & budget. Can't find it though!

Yeah that's the one 🙂 just had a read through it again. I really would not use Maplin for parts as a self build, but otherwise a good thread.

Think at the moment the best value gaming cards are the nvidia 660ti ones. Almost as good as a 670 but loads cheaper.

Chill blast order dispatched Friday 3pm arrived Sat at 2:33pm. Can't say better than that, DPD courier co. got text saying delivery 22nd on the Friday and another text saying delivery within the hr. can't fault them.

Not started pc up as he's getting other bits n bobs to go with it on Xmas day.

+1 for the 660ti, this plus an Intel i5 would run any game well. The 660 non ti is still very good though.
And a 560ti is still pretty good.

I have a 560ti which does play newish games at highest settings very well but sometimes struggles with HD (1080p) gaming and it cannot run very new games eg. Assassins creed 3 and Far cry 3 on ultra settings. So still a strong card but if budget allows I would probably get something more up to date like the 660ti as it will usable for longer.

So essentially ditto what everyone else says.
